72 (Tyne Electrical Engineers) Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers
The 72nd (Tyne Electrical Engineers) Engineer Regiment was a territorial regiment of the Royal Engineers, British Army, for three periods between 1967 and 2014. The regiment was later reduced to squadron size and renamed as 103 (Tyne Electrical Engineers) Field Squadron within the 21st Engineer Regiment. History 72nd Engineer Regiment The 72nd Engineer Regiment was formed when the Territorial Army was re-organised in the 1960s. It was created from the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division's engineer regiment and some other separate squadrons. Its first and only headquarters were at Gateshead. From 1967 - 1992 it was assigned to the 29th Engineer Brigade. Both 103 and 188 Squadrons were assigned to the "Harrier Support Group" from 1972 - 1982. The Tyne Electrical Engineers (TEE) is a Volunteer unit of the British Army that has existed under various titles since 1860. It has been the parent unit for a large number of units fulfilling specialist coastal and air defence roles in the Royal Engineers (RE) and Royal Artillery (RA), many seeing service during both World Wars. Leuchars Station is a British Army installation located in Leuchars, Fife, on the east coast of Scotland, near to the historic town of St Andrews. Formerly RAF Leuchars, it was the second most northerly air defence station in the United Kingdom (the most northerly being RAF Lossiemouth). The station ceased to be an RAF station in April 2015 when control of the site was transferred to the Army. The 1st Armoured Infantry Brigade was an infantry brigade of the British Army with a long history including service during both the First and the Second World Wars. It was based at Tidworth Camp. 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment is a Royal Engineers regiment in the British Army that was formed in 2003. It provides engineer support to 16 Air Assault Brigade in both the parachute and air assault role. 32 Engineer Regiment is a regiment of the British Army's Royal Engineers. History 32 Assault Engineer Regiment was formed in May 1948 at Perham Down after the re-designation of 42nd Assault Engineer Regiment. Shortly afterwards, the regiment disbanded in 1957. However, it was reformed in 1964 at Hohne as 32nd Armoured Engineer Regiment and assigned to I Corps. In April 1969, the regiment was re-designated as 32nd Field Engineer Regiment and was assigned to the 1st Armoured Division. By 1972, the regiment deployed to Northern Ireland.
