1894 Ontario General Election
The 1894 Ontario general election was the eighth general election held in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It was held on June 26, 1894, to elect the 94 Members of the 8th Legislative Assembly of Ontario ("MLAs"). The main issues were the Liberals' "Ontario System", as well as French language schools, farmer interests, support for Toronto business, woman suffrage, the temperance movement, and the demands of labour unions. The Ontario Liberal Party, led by Oliver Mowat, formed the government for the seventh consecutive parliament, even though some of its members were elected under joint banners: either with the Patrons of Industry or the Protestant Protective Association. The Ontario Conservative Party, led by William Ralph Meredith, formed the official opposition. John Barr (Canadian Politician)
John Barr (March 4, 1843 – November 19, 1909) was an Ontario-based Canadian physician and political figure. He represented Dufferin in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1875 to 1879, from 1890 to 1894 and from 1898 to 1904 and in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1909 as a Conservative member. From 1890 to 1894, he was a member of the provincial Conservative Equal Rights Party. He was born near Elizabethtown (later Brockville) in Canada West in 1843, the son of Irish immigrants. Carleton (Ontario Provincial Electoral District)
Carleton is a provincial riding in Ontario, Canada. It was created in 1867 at the time of confederation and lasted until provincial redistribution in 1996. In the 1999 provincial election it was redistributed into Nepean—Carleton and Lanark—Carleton. In 2007 it was abolished into Carleton—Mississippi Mills and Lanark—Frontenac—Lennox and Addington. In 2018 it was re-created as the riding of Carleton from parts of Nepean—Carleton, Carleton—Mississippi Mills and Ottawa South. Hamilton Parke O'Connor
Hamilton Parke O'Connor, (November 10, 1844 – September 13, 1900) was an Ontario lawyer and political figure. He represented Bruce South in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1882 to 1894 as a Liberal member. He was born in London, Canada West in 1844, the son of Hamilton Bligh O'Connor. He qualified to practice as an attorney in 1867 and was called to the bar in 1878. In 1875, he married Jane Watkins McLean. O'Connor served as mayor of Walkerton in 1880 and 1881. Daniel McNaughton
Daniel McNaughton (October 11, 1851 – July 12, 1925) was an Ontario farmer and political figure. He represented Bruce North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1893 to 1898. David Porter (1849 - August 7, 1893) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Bruce North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1891 to 1893 as a Liberal member.
