VII Corps (Grande Armée)
The VII Corps of the ''Grande Armée'' was a French military unit that existed during the Napoleonic Wars. It was formed in 1805 and assigned to Marshal Pierre Augereau. From 1805 to 1807, Augereau led the VII Corps in the War of the Third Coalition and the War of the Fourth Coalition. It was disbanded after being nearly wiped out at the Battle of Eylau in February 1807 and its surviving troops were distributed to other corps. In 1812, a new VII Corps composed of soldiers from Saxony was created for the invasion of Russia and General Jean Reynier took command. This formation survived to fight during the War of the Sixth Coalition, but ceased to exist after the Battle of Leipzig in October 1813 due to the defection of the Saxons. The VII Corps was recreated during the 1814 campaign in France and assigned to Marshal Nicolas Oudinot. Seventh Army Corps (Spanish–American War)
The Seventh Army Corps was a unit of the United States Army raised for the Spanish–American War. After the declaration of war, General Order 36 of May 7, 1898 defined the organization of eight "army corps," each of which was to consist of three or more divisions of three brigades each. Each brigade was to have approximately 3,600 officers and enlisted men organized into three regiments and, with three such brigades, each division was to total about 11,000 officers and men. Thus the division was to be about the same size as the division of 1861, but army corps were to be larger. The division staff initially was to have an adjutant general, quartermaster, commissary, surgeon, inspector general and engineer, with an ordnance officer added later. The brigade staff was identical except that no inspector general or ordnance officer was authorized. The Ground Operations Command (GOC; ko, 지상작전사령부) is a command of the Republic of Korea Army, based in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. History According Lee Min-hyung for Korea Times, Korean Ministry of National Defense pushed for the establishment of the Ground Operations Command since 1998, with calls to decrease number of soldiers and improve operational efficiency under a single control point. In 2015, the Government announced its intention to establish a command to be in charge of the Army's ground operations by 2018, after delaying the transfer of control of troops in case of war. Two corps of the Union Army were called VII Corps during the American Civil War. VII Corps (Department of Virginia) This corps was established 22 July 1862 from various Union troops stationed in southeastern Virginia. The VII Army Corps / VII AK (german: VII. Armee-Korps) was a corps level command of the Prussian and then the Imperial German Armies from the 19th Century to World War I. Originating in 1815 as the General Command for the Province of Westphalia, the headquarters was in Münster and its catchment area was the Province of Westphalia and the Principalities of Lippe and Schaumburg-Lippe. The Corps served in the Austro-Prussian War. During the Franco-Prussian War it was assigned to the 1st Army. In peacetime the Corps was assigned to the III Army Inspectorate which became the 2nd Army at the start of the First World War. The VII Army Corps of the United States Army was one of the two principal corps of the United States Army Europe during the Cold War. Activated in 1918 for World War I, it was reactivated for World War II and again during the Cold War. During both World War II and the Cold War it was subordinate to the Seventh Army, or USAREUR and was headquartered at Kelley Barracks in Stuttgart, West Germany, from 1951 until it was redeployed to the US after significant success in the Gulf War in 1991, then inactivated in 1992.
