795 Naval Air Squadron (795 NAS) was a Naval Air Squadron of the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm which last disbanded at RNAS Ford (HMS ''Peregrine''), in Sussex, during March 1947. Originally formed as the Eastern Fleet Fighter Pool at RNAS Tanga (HMS ''Kilele''), in Tanganyika, in June 1942, it’s 'A' Flight's supported the invasion of Madagascar, from HMS ''Illustrious'', before being detached at Majunga on anti-submarine patrols as part of the Royal Air Force’s No. 207 Group. The squadron later moved to RNAS Mackinnon Road, in Kenya, before disbanding during August 1943. It reformed as a Refresher Training Squadron at RNAS Eglinton (HMS ''Gannet''), in Northern Ireland, in August 1946 as part of the Fleet Air Arm’s 52nd Training Air Group and later included a couple of deployments in HMS ''Implacable''. Illustrious-class Aircraft Carrier
The ''Illustrious'' class was a class of aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy that included some of the most important British warships in the Second World War. They were laid down in the late 1930s as part of the rearmament of British forces in response to the emerging threats of Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan. The ''Illustrious'' class comprised four vessels: HM Ships ''Illustrious'', ''Formidable'', ''Victorious'' and ''Indomitable''. Mackinnon Road
Mackinnon Road is a town in Kwale County, Kenya, with a population of around 8000 in 1999, located between Mombasa and Voi. Just a few kilometers from Taru. History In World War II a Fleet Air Arm airfield was established at Mackinnon Road after the British Eastern Fleet retreated to Mombasa following the Indian Ocean raid. Airfields at Voi and Port Reitz Airport were also used to disperse the fleet's carrier aircraft in case of attack by the aircraft carriers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. These airfields were administered by the Royal Navy shore establishment ''HMS Kipanga II'' ("Kipanga" is Swahili language for "goshawk"). HMAS ''Albatross'' (later HMS ''Albatross'') was a seaplane tender of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), which was later transferred to the Royal Navy and used as a repair ship. ''Albatross'' was built by Cockatoo Island Dockyard during the mid-1920s and entered service at the start of 1929. The ship experienced problems with the aircraft assigned to her during her career: the amphibious aircraft she had been designed for were retired just before the ship entered service, the replacement aircraft could not be catapult-launched from the ship, and a new plane designed specifically to work with the ship began operations after ''Albatross'' was demoted from seagoing status in 1933.
