72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival
The 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival will take place from 20 to 28 September 2024 in San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa, Spain. Background A restored 4K version of Montxo Armendariz's film '' Tasio'' (which premiered at the 1984 San Sebastián Film Festival) was announced to be part of the 'Klasikoak' slate. Audrey Diwan's ''Emmanuelle'' was later revealed to be the festival's opening film, as well as part of the official selection's competitive lineup. 2023 Donostia Award winner Javier Bardem is expected to receive the award in 2024, as the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike prevented him from attending the 71st festival. On 9 May 2024, the festival's organization unveiled the official poster for the 72nd edition; it features Donostia Award winner Cate Blanchett and it was designed by José Luis Lanzagorta based on a black and white photograph by Gustavo Papaleo. ''Emmanuelle'' is an upcoming English-language French erotic drama film directed, co-written and produced by Audrey Diwan. Based on the 1967 novel by Emmanuelle Arsan, it is the eighth theatrical film in the series of the same name, and the fifteenth film overall, and serves as a reboot. It stars Noémie Merlant as the title character, alongside Naomi Watts and Will Sharpe. The film will have its world premiere on 20 September 2024 at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival, and is scheduled to be released in France by Pathé on 25 September 2024. Plot The plot explores Emmanuelle's search of a lost pleasure in Hong Kong.
