6IX
6IX (stylised as 6iX) is a commercial radio station in Perth, Western Australia, broadcasting a classic hits and oldies format from its studios in Osborne Park. First broadcast in 1933, the station is currently owned and operated as a joint venture by Capital Radio Network and Grant Broadcasters. History 6IX was first opened on 27 November 1933 by Sir John Kirwan, the then-President of the Western Australian Legislative Council. Operated by W.A. Broadcasters Ltd, the station first broadcast on 1240 kHz AM, until 1935 when it moved to 1080 AM. In 1970 TVW enterprises bought 6IX and moved it to its studios in Tuart Hill (Dianella). In the mid-1980s it moved to 169 Hay Street East Perth where 6PR and 96FM are today broadcast from. Capital Radio Network is an Australian radio company, which owns stations in Canberra, Goulburn, Cooma, the Snowy Mountains, Gippsland and Perth. The company is a subsidiary of Blyton Group, with Kevin James Blyton as managing director for both. The company first acquired 2XL (now XLFM) in the Snowy Mountains, as well as 2CC and 2CA in Canberra - the latter two offloaded from parent companies Australian Radio Network and Austereo respectively in order for them to launch joint-venture stations 104.7 and Mix 106.3. Grant Broadcasters is an Australian regional radio network. Founded in 1942, by 2019 it owned 53 radio stations. In 2022 it sold 46 to Here, There & Everywhere retaining shareholdings in seven in Canberra, Geelong, Goulburn and Perth. History Grant Broadcasters was founded by Walter Grant in 1942 when he bought 2DU in Dubbo. In 1972 a shareholding in 2ST in Nowra was purchased followed in 1979 by 2PK in Parkes and in 1982 2MG in Mudgee. In 1986 2DU, 2PK and 2MG were sold with full ownership taken of 2ST. Osborne Park, Western Australia
Osborne Park is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the local government area of the City of Stirling and City of Vincent. History Osborne Park was named after William Osborne, a butcher who owned an abattoir and land on Wanneroo Road and who was elected to the Perth Road Board (the City of Stirling's predecessor), in 1875. Osborne Park was part of an original crown grant of 6,020 acres given to T. R. C. Walters in 1840. After the death of Walters in 1874, William Osborne bought part of his estate, which included the area now known as Osborne Park. Sir John Waters Kirwan, KCMG (2 December 1869 – 9 September 1949) was the President of the Western Australian Legislative Council and first Federal member for Kalgoorlie in the Australian House of Representatives. Biography Early life He was born in Liverpool, England, of Irish parents. Career He did literary work in London and Dublin before coming to Australia in 1889. At first, he continued writing in Brisbane, Melbourne and South Australian newspapers but moved to Kalgoorlie in 1895, attracted by the great gold discoveries. In Kalgoorlie, he edited both the ''Western Argus'' and ''Kalgoorlie Miner'' newspapers, with the latter growing in size and importance under his editorship.
