67th Venice Film Festival
The 67th annual Venice International Film Festival held in Venice, Italy, took place from 1 to 11 September 2010. American film director and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino was the head of the Jury. The opening film of the festival was Darren Aronofsky's ''Black Swan'', and the closing film was Julie Taymor's '' The Tempest''. John Woo was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement prior to the start of the Festival. The Golden Lion for the Best Film In Competition was awarded to '' Somewhere'', directed by Sofia Coppola. The Silver Lion Award for Best Director was given to Álex de la Iglesia, for ''A Sad Trumpet Ballad''. In a break with tradition of limiting a film to receiving no more than one major award, the Special Jury Prize and the Best Actor (the Volpi Cup) went to the same film, Jerzy Skolimowski's ''Essential Killing''. A Sad Trumpet Ballad
''The Last Circus'' ( es, Balada triste de trompeta, links=no; ) is a 2010 Spanish-French dark comedy-drama film written and directed by Álex de la Iglesia, which stars Carlos Areces, Antonio de la Torre and Carolina Bang. It premiered at the 2010 Venice Film Festival. Plot In 1937, Republican Militia force a circus troupe to fight on their side in the Spanish Civil War. The Funny Clown (Santiago Segura) slaughters dozens of Nationalist troops, armed only with a machete, before being shot and disarmed. While his fellow troupe members are executed, the Funny Clown is sentenced to work as a slave laborer, at the monument of the Valle de los Caídos. His son, Javier (Sasha Di Bendetto) tries to free him by setting off dynamite where he was working. But Colonel Salcedo (Sancho Gracia) tramples the Funny Clown to death with his horse. Gabriele Salvatores
Gabriele Salvatores (born 30 July 1950) is an Italian Academy Award-winning film director and screenwriter. Biography Born in Naples, Salvatores debuted as a theatre director in 1972, founding in Milan the Teatro dell'Elfo, for which he directed several avant-garde pieces until 1989. In that year, he directed his third feature film, ''Marrakech Express'', which was followed in 1990 by '' Turné''. Both films shared a group of actor-friends, including Diego Abatantuono and Fabrizio Bentivoglio, who will be present in many of his later movies. ''Turné'' was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival. Luca Guadagnino
Luca Guadagnino (; born 10 August 1971) is an Italian film director, producer, and screenwriter. His films are often characterized by their emotional complexities, sensuality and sumptuous visuals. He is also known for his frequent collaborations with actors Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet and Michael Stuhlbarg, editor Walter Fasano and screenwriter David Kajganich. Born in Palermo, Guadagnino spent part of his childhood in Ethiopia, but emigrated back to Italy with his family to escape the Ethiopian Civil War. Danny Elfman
Daniel Robert Elfman (born May 29, 1953) is an American film composer, singer and songwriter. He came to prominence as the singer-songwriter for the new wave band Oingo Boingo in the early 1980s. Arnaud Desplechin
Arnaud Desplechin (; born 31 October 1960) is a French film director and screenwriter. In 2016, he won the César Award for Best Director for ''My Golden Days'' (2015). Life and career Desplechin was born in Roubaix. He is the son of Robert and Mado Desplechin, and grew up in the Nord department. He has a brother named Fabrice who has acted in several of his films, and two sisters: novelist Marie Desplechin and screenwriter Raphaëlle Desplechin. Guillermo Arriaga Jordán (; born 13 March 1958) is a Mexican author, screenwriter, director and producer.
