The 63rd Armor Regiment is an armored regiment of the United States Army formed in 1942. Armor Branch (United States)
The Armor Branch of the United States Army is an active armored warfare combat arms branch. It was created provisionally in 1940 as Armored Force under the Chief of the Armored Force, Brigadier General Adna R. Chaffee, Jr. and took control of all tank units in infantry and cavalry units. The United States Tank Corps was established in 1918 but then split back into the Infantry and Cavalry in 1921. The Armored Command was headquartered at Ft. Fort Riley is a United States Army installation located in North Central Kansas, on the Kansas River, also known as the Kaw, between Junction City and Manhattan. The Fort Riley Military Reservation covers 101,733 acres (41,170 ha) in Geary and Riley counties. 745th Tank Battalion
The 745th Tank Battalion was an independent tank battalion that participated in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) with the United States Army in World War II. It was one of five tank battalions (all independent) that landed in Normandy on D-Day (6 June 1944). The battalion participated in combat operations throughout northern Europe until V-E Day. Unlike many independent tank battalions, which were attached to different units over time, the 745th was attached to the 1st Infantry Division for the duration of its combat operations in the ETO. It was inactivated in October 1945. Activation and deployment The 745th Tank Battalion was activated at Camp Bowie, Texas (near Brownwood) on 15 August 1942.
