Shelagh Rogers
Shelagh Rogers, OC, is a Canadian broadcast journalist based in British Columbia. She is the host and producer of CBC Radio One's '' The Next Chapter'', and former chancellor of the University of Victoria. Background Rogers grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. Rogers began in broadcasting at CFRC, the campus radio station of Queen's University. She also worked at Kingston, Ontario's CKWS, hosting a country music program while still a student at Queen's. She later went on to produce a daily current affairs TV show and served as the station's late-night weather presenter. Rogers graduated from Queen's University's arts program (B.A., art history) in 1977. Rogers is a member of the Metis nation of Greater Victoria. The Kerplunks
The Kerplunks are a Canadian children's music group based on Gabriola Island, BC. This group was formed in 2006, releasing their first self-titled album in 2007. The Kerplunks have been nominated for multiple Juno Awards and won multiple Parents Choice Awards etc. Due to public outcry for children's music that parents could enjoy, this 4-piece band can be found at top music festivals across Canada and Canada and beyond. The Kerplunks are composed of musicians Dinah D, Jocelyn Hallett (2016), Phil Wipper and Aaron Cadwaladr. Live at the Mauch Chunk Opera House is the third album by the Canadian folk trio The Wailin' Jennys. Production In the last week of August 2008, alt-folk group The Wailin' Jennys arrived at the Mauch Chunk Opera House with the goal of laying down a live recording to capture their performances in the famous Mauch Chunk Opera House, in the town of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. "Live at the Mauch Chunk Opera House" was recorded during a single day, rather than being compiled from an entire tour. Eagle & Hawk is a Canadian First Nations rock group based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, active since 1994. They are most noted for winning the Juno Award for Best Music of Aboriginal Canada Recording in 2002 for their album ''On and On''. The band had numerous members throughout its history, with guitarist Vince Fontaine as the primary and constant member. History The band was formed in 1994 by Vince Fontaine and Troy Westwood. Ian Tamblyn
Ian Tamblyn (born December 2, 1947) is a Canadian folk music singer-songwriter and record producer, adventurer and playwright. Early life Tamblyn was born and raised in Fort William (now Thunder Bay), Ontario, and studied at Trent University, graduating in 1971 and subsequently settling in Chelsea, Quebec. Career Tamblyn released a demo cassette, ''Moose Tracks'', in 1971. In 1976, he released his first full-length album, ''Ian Tamblyn'', which won a Juno Award for Best Album Cover that year. Since then, he has completed over 25 recording projects. He plays guitar, piano, hammered dulcimer and synthesizer, as well as singing. Tamblyn has recorded a number of instrumental music albums inspired by his adventure travels to remote places such as the north shore of Lake Superior, the Nahanni River and the Chukchi Sea, and his participation in scientific research expeditions to locations such as Greenland and Antarctica. Oliver Schroer
Oliver Schroer (June 18, 1956 – July 3, 2008) was a Canadian fiddler, composer, and music producer. Early life Oliver Schroer grew up in Vandeleur, Ontario, a small farming community near Markdale in rural Grey County. He attended Grey Highlands Secondary School in Flesherton, where he played French horn in the school band. He also took private violin lessons. He graduated in 1974, having earned several academic awards. Schroer was dissatisfied with university life, and began to busk in Toronto, playing guitar in the Toronto subway. After several years, he picked up his violin again, but to play fiddle rather than classical music. Eventually, he began to record, and in 1993 released his first album, ''Jigzup'', which was nominated for a Juno Award in the ''Best Roots or Traditional Album'' category. Nathan Rogers
Nathan Rogers (born July 16, 1979 in Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton, Ontario) is a Canadians, Canadian folk musician/songwriter. He is the son of Stan Rogers, Stan and Ariel Rogers. His father, a folk musician and songwriter, died in a fire aboard Air Canada Flight 797 on June 2, 1983. Rogers was immersed in the songwriting tradition from an early age, gaining a keen appreciation for singers and songwriters like Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard Cohen. Early musical experience consisted of singing in school choirs and plays. While attending the boarding school Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario, Oakville, Rogers worked with the Appleby Boys Choir, a world-class boys choir, occasionally touring as far afield as New Orleans.
