The 68th San Sebastián International Film Festival took place from 18 to 26 September 2020 in San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa, Spain. The festival opened with Woody Allen's '' Rifkin's Festival''. Viggo Mortensen was awarded the Donostia Award for lifetime achievements. The competitive awards were presented on 26 September 2020. ''Rifkin's Festival'' is a 2020 comedy film, written and directed by Woody Allen. An American-Spanish-Italian co-production, it stars Wallace Shawn, Elena Anaya, Louis Garrel, Gina Gershon, Sergi López, and Christoph Waltz. True Mothers
is a 2020 Japanese drama film directed by Naomi Kawase. It was selected to be shown at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival. It is based on a 2015 novel by Mizuki Tsujimura. In June 2020, the Toronto International Film Festival announced that the film would be part of their 2020 festival. It was selected as the Japanese entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards, but was not nominated. Plot Satoko (Hiromi Nagasaku) and Kiyokazu (Arata Iura) have a kindergarten-age son, Asato (Reo Sato), whom they adopted as a newborn. 2020 Cannes Film Festival
The 73rd annual Cannes Film Festival was scheduled to take place from 12 to 23 May 2020. On 13 January 2020, Spike Lee was named as the president of the Jury. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in France, festival management announced on 14 April 2020 that the festival could not be held in its "original form", with alternative means of observing the festival being explored. It was cancelled for the first time since 1968. Earlier, festival management considered holding the festival in June or July, after not cancelling the event. In mid-March, the festival's main venue, the Grand Auditorium ''Louis Lumière'', was converted into a temporary homeless shelter.
