65th Air Defense Artillery Regiment
The 65th Air Defense Artillery was a training regiment in the United States Army. During World War I the unit was a tractor drawn (TD) unit equipped with British BL 9.2 inch Howitzers. When it was reactivated in Panama in 1924 it became an (AA) anti aircraft unit equipped with the 3-inch Gun M1918. Lineage Constituted 26 December 1917 in the Regular Army as the 1st Battalion 65th Artillery (Coast Artillery Corps) and organized 1 January 1918 at Fort Rosecrans, California. Demobilized 28 February 1919 at Camp Lewis, Washington. reconstituted 1 July 1924 in the regular army as 1st Battalion, 65th Coast Artillery (Antiaircraft) and activated at Fort Amador, Canal Zone; Inactivated 15 April 1932 at Fort Amador. Oozlefinch
The Oozlefinch is the unofficial historic mascot of the Air Defense Artillery – and formerly of the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps. The Oozlefinch is portrayed as a featherless bird that flies backwards (at supersonic speeds) and carries weapons of the Air Defense and Coast Artillery, most often a Nike-Hercules Missile. The Oozlefinch has been portrayed in many different forms and artistic interpretations through its history. History There are many legends about the origins of the Oozlefinch. Most agree that the legend began in 1905 at Ft. Monroe, Virginia, then home of the Coast Artillery Corps. Captain H. M. 3-inch Gun M1918
The 3-inch gun M1918 was a United States 3-inch anti-aircraft gun that entered service in 1918 and served until it was largely superseded by the 3-inch anti-aircraft gun M3 in 1930, though the M1918 remained with some National Guard units until early in World War II. The M3 was subsequently replaced by the M1 90mm AA gun early in World War II, primarily during 1942. The M3 3" gun was later adapted for the anti-tank role, serving as the main armament of the M10 tank destroyer during World War II. Fort Lewis was a United States Army post from 1917 to 2010 located south-southwest of Tacoma, Washington. Fort Lewis was merged with McChord Air Force Base on 1 February 2010 to form Joint Base Lewis–McChord. Fort Amador
Fort Amador ( es, Fuerte Amador) and Fort Grant were former United States Army bases built to protect the Pacific (southern) end of the Panama Canal at Panama Bay. Amador was the primary on-land site, lying below the Bridge of the Americas. Grant consisted of a series of islands lying just offshore, some connected to Amador via a causeway. Fort Point is a masonry Seacoast defense in the United States, seacoast fortification located on the southern side of the Golden Gate at the entrance to San Francisco Bay. It is also the geographic name of the promontory upon which the fort and the southern approach of the Golden Gate Bridge were constructed. Fort Ord
Fort Ord is a former United States Army post on Monterey Bay of the Pacific Ocean coast in California, which closed in 1994 due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action.
