65amps is a musical equipment manufacturer, founded in 2002 (incorporated in 2004) by Dan Boul and Peter Stroud. Based in North Hollywood, CA, they manufacture hand-wired tube-powered guitar and bass amplifiers and cabinets. Origin of the company Advances in in-ear monitor technology and the pursuant lower stage volumes led to the need for low-powered amplification solution for guitar players that still sounded as full and rich as larger tube amps. Peter Stroud and long-time friend Dan Boul developed an amp in Boul's garage that would be robust enough for Stroud's show with Sheryl Crow while he played it at low volume. The amp was first shown to the public at the NAMM Show in 2004; Boul left his employer to devote his time to 65amps full-time in 2007. Peter Stroud
Peter Stroud is a US guitarist best known for his work with Sheryl Crow, Don Henley, Pete Droge, and Sarah McLachlan. He is cofounder of 65amps, a company manufacturing guitar amplifiers. Biography Peter Stroud was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was raised and received early education in Greensboro, NC. High school years, he attended The Principia Upper School in St. Louis and Greensboro Day School in his hometown, graduating class 1977. In the mid-late 90s, Stroud played with Pete Droge. It was during this period that he met Sheryl Crow, and in late 1998 she asked him to join her band in support of her third release, ''Globe Sessions''. This musical relationship has lasted for over eleven years, where he eventually served as Sheryl’s music director. EF86
The EF86 is a high transconductance sharp cutoff pentode vacuum tube with Noval (B9A) base for audio-frequency applications. It was introduced by the Mullard company in 1953 and was produced by Philips, Mullard, Telefunken, Valvo, and GEC among others. It is very similar electrically to the octal base EF37A and the Rimlock base EF40. Unlike many pentodes it was designed specifically for audio applications, low noise and low microphony being claimed advantages, although a rubber-mounted vibration-resistant base was still recommended. It has much higher stage gain than any triode, which makes it susceptible to microphony. The EF86 was used in many preamplifier designs during the last decades of vacuum tube hi-fi development. The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings.
