56th Arizona State Legislature
The 56th Arizona State Legislature, consisting of the Arizona Senate and the Arizona House of Representatives, is the current legislative session constituted in Phoenix on January 9, 2023, during the first two years of Katie Hobbs's first full term in office. Both the Senate and the House membership remained constant at 30 and 60, respectively. In the November 2022 Senate election, Republicans maintained an unchanged 16–14 majority. Republicans also maintained an unchanged 31–29 majority in the House after the November 2022 House election. Sessions The Legislature met in its first regular session at the State Capitol in Phoenix. The session opened on January 9, 2023. The second regular session will begin on January 8, 2024. Warren Petersen
Warren Petersen is an American politician and a Republican member of the Arizona Senate representing District 14 from January 9, 2023. He currently serves as President of the Arizona Senate. He formerly was a State Representative, also representing District 12. He was elected by his peers to serve as Majority Leader from 2018–2019. Dave Farnsworth
David Christian Farnsworth (born July 16, 1951) is an American politician and a Republican member of the Arizona Senate representing District 10 since 2023. He was previously appointed to the Arizona Senate on September 11, 2013, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Rich Crandall. Raquel Terán
Raquel Terán is an American politician serving as a member of the Arizona Senate from the 30th district. She previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives. Early life Terán was born in Douglas, Arizona. Her citizenship was challenged in court by an anti-immigration advocate in 2012, and again after her 2018 election. The lawsuits were both dismissed. Career Prior to being elected to the state legislature, Terán was a community organizer who was active in opposing Arizona SB 1070 that she believed had an " anti-immigrant sentiment."
