5th Marine Infantry Battalion
The 5th Marine Battalion (Spanish ''Batallón de Infantería de Marina 5'', abbreviated to BIM-5) is a battalion of the Argentine Marines. Current Today BIM-5, together with the 4th Marine Battalion (BIM-4), is based at Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego Province as part of the Argentine Navy's ''Fuerza de Infantería de Marina Austral'' (Southern Marine Corps Force, FAIA), formerly ''Fuerza de Infantería de Marina N°1'' (First Marine Force, FIM1). They started the "Black Beret" tradition from a design made by Marine Sub-Lieutenant (naval rank equivalent to army Sub-Lieutenant) Abelardo "Tigre" (Tiger) Terré at the beginning of 1977, with then Marine Commander Manuel Tomé as its CO. After a Mountain and Cold Weather commando fighting course, they were dubbed the ''Aguilas Australes'' (Southern Eagles) and wore a black beret with a silver flash. IMARA
The Naval Infantry Command ( es, Comando de la Infantería de Marina, COIM), also known as the Naval Infantry of the Navy of the Argentine Republic ( es, Infantería de Marina de la Armada de la República Argentina, IMARA) and generally referred to in English as the Argentine marines are the amphibious warfare branch of the Argentine Navy and one of its four operational commands. The Argentine marines trace their origins to the Spanish Naval Infantry, which took part in conflicts in South America in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Argentine marines took part in various conflicts of the nineteenth and twentieth century, notably the War of the Triple Alliance and the Falklands War. Sapper Hill
Sapper Hill (453 ft) is on East Falkland, located just south of Stanley, the Falklands Islands capital. It is named after a troop of sappers who were once billeted at Moody Brook barracks. Falklands War Mount Tumbledown, Mount William and Sapper Hill lie west of the Falkland Islands capital Stanley and due to their proximity to Stanley were of strategic importance during the 1982 War. They were held by the Argentine 5th Naval Infantry Battalion (BIM 5), a reinforced, cold weather trained and equipped, Marine battalion. Carlos Büsser
Carlos Alberto César Büsser (10 January 1928 – 29 September 2012) was an Argentine naval officer who commanded Argentine forces during the 1982 invasion of the Falkland Islands who forced the surrender of the Governor of the Falkland Islands, Rex Hunt. Following the Argentine defeat in the Falklands War, he was appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a position he held until his retirement in 1983. In 1984, Büsser published the book ''Operación Rosario'', a detailed account of the Argentine landings on the Falklands, and, in 1987, ''Malvinas, la guerra inconclusa'', an overall analysis of the conflict. Büsser died of a heart attack in September 2012. The FV101 Scorpion is a British armoured reconnaissance vehicle, and also a light tank. It was the lead vehicle and the fire support type in the Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked), CVR(T), family of seven armoured vehicles. Moody Brook is a small watercourse that flows into Stanley Harbour on East Falkland, Falkland Islands. It is near Stanley, Falkland Islands, Stanley, just to the north west, and was formerly the location of the town barracks, which were attacked in Operation Rosario, the 1982 Argentine Invasion of the Falkland Islands.
