5th Legislative Assembly Of Saskatchewan
The 5th Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was elected in the Saskatchewan general election held in June 1921. The assembly sat from December 8, 1921, to May 9, 1925. The Liberal Party led by William Melville Martin formed the government. After Martin retired in 1922, Charles Avery Dunning became Liberal party leader and Premier. The former leader of the Conservative Party, Donald Maclean had left politics to serve as a judge shortly before the election. The opposition in the assembly was unorganized and there was no official opposition leader in 1921 or 1922. Independent member John Archibald Maharg served as leader of the opposition in 1923 and Harris Turner, also independent, served as opposition leader in 1924 and 1925. 1921 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1921 Saskatchewan general election was held on June 9, 1921, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Liberal Party of Saskatchewan of Premier William M. Martin was re-elected – although with a diminished share of the popular vote, and a reduced caucus in the legislature. The opposition Conservative Party – led by Donald McLean – fractured: it nominated only seven candidates, and won only two seats. Its share of the popular vote fell from about 36% to less than 4%. It appears that many Conservatives ran as independents or Independent Conservatives. These two groups won over 29% of the vote, and voters elected a total of eight Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) under these banners. Canora is a former provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, centered on the town of Canora. This constituency was created before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908. Dissolved in 1934, the district was reconstituted before the 9th Saskatchewan general election in 1938. Walter George Robinson
Walter George Robinson (July 19, 1873 – 1949) was an insurance and loan agent and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Francis in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1912 to 1929 as a Liberal. Robinson was born at Mascouche Rapids, Quebec, the son of Thomas Robinson and Sarah Jane McCurdy. He was educated in Listowel, Owen Sound and Regina. In 1903, Robinson married Bessie Cameron. He served as speaker for the Saskatchewan assembly from 1925 to 1929. Francis is a former provincial electoral division for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, centred on the town of Francis, Saskatchewan. This district was created before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908. Robert Dunbar (politician)
Robert Dunbar (December 13, 1812–September 18, 1890) was a Scottish mechanical engineer. He designed the first steam-powered grain elevator in the world and the majority of the first grain elevators in Buffalo, New York City, and Canada. Early life Dunbar was born in Carnbee, Scotland. His birth is recorded as December 13, 1812. His father was William Dunbar, a mechanical engineer who came from a family line of engineers. Dunbar immigrated with his family to Pickering, Ontario, while a boy of 12. He went to high school and college in Canada. He took an interest in mechanics and learned mechanical engineering. Career Dunbar took charge of the shipyard at Niagara, Ontario, in 1832. He renovated the docks and their machinery. Dunbar later settled in Black Rock, Buffalo, New York, in 1834. Estevan (electoral District)
Estevan is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city of Estevan (pop. 10,084) is the largest centre in the constituency. Known as Saskatchewan's "Energy City", the area has rich deposits of oil, natural gas, and lignite coal. Provincial Highways 39 and 47 connect Estevan with the American state of North Dakota. Wilbert Hagarty (January 9, 1888 – 1963) was a farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Elrose in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1921 to 1929 as a Liberal. Elrose was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southwestern Saskatchewan, this constituency was centred on the town of Elrose. The riding was created before the 3rd Saskatchewan general election in 1912 as "Eagle Creek"; it was renamed "Elrose" in 1917. Henry Theodore Halvorson
Henry Theodore Halvorson (June 27, 1883 – June 27, 1943) was a lumber salesman and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cypress in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1921 to 1929 as a Liberal. He was born in Rushford, Minnesota, the son of Halvor Halvorson and Alena Thompson, both natives of Norway, and was educated at the University of Minnesota. Halvorson came to Canada in 1910. He served in France with the Canadian Machine Gun Corps during World War I. In 1922, Halvorson married Iona Jonasson.
