56th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly
The 56th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly was created following a general election in 2006. Its members were sworn-in on October 3, 2006 but it was called into session by the Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick on February 6, 2007. Leadership Eugene McGinley, was elected speaker at the first session of the Assembly on February 6, 2007 but resigned on October 31, 2007 to join the cabinet. Roy Boudreau was elected speaker on November 27, 2007. Premier of New Brunswick Shawn Graham leads the government. Former Premier Bernard Lord was nominal leader of the opposition until January 31, 2007 at which time he resigned his seat and was replaced by interim leader of the Progressive Conservatives, Jeannot Volpé. Keith Ashfield
Keith John Ashfield (March 28, 1952 – April 22, 2018) was a Canadian politician. He served as the member of Parliament (MP) for the electoral district of Fredericton from 2008 to 2015 and, before that, was a member of the New Brunswick Legislature from 1999 to 2008. He served in the federal cabinet in various capacities from 2008 to 2013. Early life The son of Jack Ashfield and Nora Locke, he studied Business at the University of New Brunswick for two years. Political career Provincial Ashfield was a school trustee for a number of years and was first a candidate for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 1991 election. A Progressive Conservative, Ashfield placed third with Confederation of Regions candidate Max White being victorious. Moncton Crescent
Moncton Northwest (french: Moncton-Nord-Ouest) is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was first be contested in the 1995 general election, having been created in the 1994 redistribution of electoral boundaries with the name Moncton Crescent. The district was first created in 1995 out of Petitcodiac, then the most populous electoral district in the province. It took its name from the fact that its shape was a crescent over the north of the city of Moncton. It lost much of its easternmost territory in the 2006 redistribution and lost much of its crescent shape. John Betts (Canadian Politician)
John Willis Betts, (born February 17, 1949) is a Canadians, Canadian teacher and politician, who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for the Riding (division), riding of Moncton Crescent from 1999 to 2014. Betts was born in Moncton, New Brunswick. He earned an ice hockey scholarship to Gordon College (Massachusetts), Gordon College in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education, Master's Degree in Education Administration from the University of Moncton. Betts was a longtime member of the Moncton City Council, having been elected in 1986, 1989, 1992, 1995 and 1998. Donald Arseneault
Donald Arseneault (born in Dalhousie, New Brunswick) is a New Brunswick politician. He is the former Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for the riding of Dalhousie-Restigouche East. At the time one of the youngest members of the legislature, Arseneault worked in the civil service before being elected in the 2003 election. He was named to the opposition shadow cabinet following the election as critic for both the Office of Human Resources and the Department of Intergovernmental and International Relations. Hédard Albert, (born in Saint-Simon, New Brunswick), is a New Brunswick politician. Albert worked for 35 years at the CCNB ( francophone branch of the New Brunswick Community College system) fisheries school where he taught, conducted research and served as school administrator. The New Brunswick Liberal Association (french: Association libérale du Nouveau-Brunswick), more popularly known as the New Brunswick Liberal ''Party'' or Liberal Party of New Brunswick, is one of the two major provincial political parties in New Brunswick, Canada. The party descended from both the Confederation Party and the Anti-Confederation Party whose members split into left-wing and right-wing groups following the creation of Canada as a nation in 1867. The current political organization emerged in the 1880s to serve as an organization housing the supporters of Premier Andrew G. Blair and, later, federal Liberal Party of Canada leader Wilfrid Laurier. Today, the New Brunswick Liberal Party follows the centre-left tradition. R. Wallis "Wally" Stiles (born October 18, 1950 in Sussex, New Brunswick, Canada) is a New Brunswick politician. He represented the electoral district of Petitcodiac in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1999–2010.
