54th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly
The 54th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly was created following a general election in 1999 and was dissolved on May 10, 2003. Leadership The speaker from its first meeting on July 6, 1999, until the Assembly was dissolved was Bev Harrison. Harrison would go on to be re-elected speaker for the 55th Assembly as well. Premier Bernard Lord led the government for the whole of the life of the assembly. The opposition was led from the forming of the assembly until 2001 by former Premier Camille Thériault, then, until May 14, 2002, by interim leader Bernard Richard and from then until dissolution by Shawn Graham. Elizabeth Weir led the third party New Democrats for the life of the assembly. Members All were elected in the 34th general election held on June 7, 1999, except for Jean F. Gaston Moore
Gaston Moore (born December 29, 1945) is a former political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Caraquet in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 2001 to 2003 as a Progressive Conservative member. He was born in Moffet, Quebec, the son of Georges Moore and Eva Nadeau. A former police officer with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, Moore was also a fisherman for several years. He married Georgette Friolet with whom he has three daughters and three sons. Moore ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1999. He was elected in a 2001 by-election held after Bernard Thériault ran for a seat in the House of Commons. New Maryland (electoral District)
New Maryland-Sunbury is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. History It was created in 1994 as a totally new district taking in large parts of York South and Sunbury as well as small pieces of several other districts. In the 2006 redistribution of districts, it lost the community of Lincoln due to the rapid growth of both Lincoln and the village of New Maryland, both bedroom communities for Fredericton. Also in 2006, the legislature decided to change the name from New Maryland to New Maryland-Sunbury West to reflect that the district contains much more than just the community of New Maryland. The district expanded eastward in 2013 to take in most of southern Sunbury County, including the Geary area. Keith Ashfield
Keith John Ashfield (March 28, 1952 – April 22, 2018) was a Canadian politician. He served as the member of Parliament (MP) for the electoral district of Fredericton from 2008 to 2015 and, before that, was a member of the New Brunswick Legislature from 1999 to 2008. He served in the federal cabinet in various capacities from 2008 to 2013. Early life The son of Jack Ashfield and Nora Locke, he studied Business at the University of New Brunswick for two years. The Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick is a centre-right, conservative political party in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The party has its origins in the pre-Canadian confederation Conservative Party that opposed the granting of ''responsible government'' to the colony. David Alward
David Nathan Alward (born December 2, 1959) is a Canadian politician, who served as the 32nd premier of New Brunswick, 2010 to 2014. Alward has been a member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick since 1999 and has been the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick. His party was defeated on September 22, 2014, and Alward resigned as Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick leader on September 23, 2014. New Brunswick Liberal Association
The New Brunswick Liberal Association (french: Association libérale du Nouveau-Brunswick), more popularly known as the New Brunswick Liberal ''Party'' or Liberal Party of New Brunswick, is one of the two major provincial political parties in New Brunswick, Canada. The party descended from both the Confederation Party and the Anti-Confederation Party whose members split into left-wing and right-wing groups following the creation of Canada as a nation in 1867. The current political organization emerged in the 1880s to serve as an organization housing the supporters of Premier Andrew G. Blair and, later, federal Liberal Party of Canada leader Wilfrid Laurier. Today, the New Brunswick Liberal Party follows the centre-left tradition. Kenneth Eric Allaby (born August 7, 1943 on Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick) is a former New Brunswick politician. 2003 New Brunswick General Election
The 2003 New Brunswick general election was held on June 9, 2003, to elect 55 members to the 55th New Brunswick Legislative Assembly. Although polls initially suggested a landslide victory for Premier Bernard Lord's Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick, the dynamics of the race shifted after Shawn Graham, leader of the Liberal Party of New Brunswick, took on auto insurance rates as a key issue of his campaign.
