The 51st (2nd Yorkshire West Riding) Regiment of Foot was a British Army line infantry Regiment of Foot, regiment, raised in 1755. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 105th Regiment of Foot (Madras Light Infantry) to form the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in 1881. History Early history The regiment was formed by Lieutenant General Robert Napier (British Army officer, died 1766), Robert Napier as the 53rd (Napier's) Regiment of Foot in 1755 for service in the Seven Years' War. The regiment started out in Exeter but was transferred to Leeds later in the same year. 53rd (City of London) Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery was a volunteer air defence unit of Britain's Territorial Army from 1922 until 1961. During World War II it fought in the Battle of France and The Blitz, and later served in India, where it was converted to Medium Artillery. Postwar it reverted to the AA artillery role. The 53rd Alabama Cavalry Regiment, also known as the 53rd Alabama Partisan Rangers, was a cavalry regiment that served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. The regiment was instrumental in the raid to capture a train load of cattle destined for General Sherman during the Atlanta Campaign.
