53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment (Romania)
The 53rd Anti-aircraft Missiles Regiment "Trophaeum Traiani" (''Regimentul 53 Rachete Antiaeriene'') is an air defense regiment of the Romanian Land Forces. It is currently subordinated to the 2nd Infantry Division and its headquarters are located in Medgidia (near Constanța). The regiment was part of the 6th Anti-aircraft Missiles Brigade, which was disbanded in 2006, due to a reorganization process of the Romanian Land Forces. Medgidia ( or ; historical Turkish names: ''Karasu'' or ''Carasu'', ''Mecidiye'' or ''Megidie'') is a city in Constanța County, Northern Dobruja, south-eastern Romania. History Archaeological findings show that Dobruja was inhabited since the Neolithic period. Starting with 46 BC the region was administered by the Roman Empire. The 6th Anti-aircraft Missiles Brigade "Râmnic" (''Brigada 6 Rachete Antiaeriene'') was an anti-aircraft brigade of the Romanian Land Forces. It was one of the oldest anti-aircraft military units of the Romanian Armed Forces, being formed during World War I. The brigade was subordinated in 2005 to the 1st Territorial Army Corps, and its headquarters were located in Râmnicu Sărat. The 2K12 ''"Kub"'' (russian: 2К12 "Куб"; en, cube) (NATO reporting name: SA-6 "Gainful") mobile surface-to-air missile system is a Soviet low to medium-level air defence system designed to protect ground forces from air attack. "2К12" is the GRAU designation of the system. Each 2K12 battery consists of a number of similar tracked vehicles, one of which carries the 1S91 (SURN vehicle, NATO designation "Straight Flush") 25 kW G/ H band radar (with a range of ) equipped with a continuous wave illuminator, in addition to an optical sight.
