53rd Berlin International Film Festival
The 53rd annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from February 6–16, 2003. The festival opened with musical film ''Chicago (2002 film), Chicago'' by Rob Marshall and closed with Martin Scorsese's ''Gangs of New York'', both films played out of competition at the festival. The Golden Bear was awarded to British film ''In This World'' directed by Michael Winterbottom. The retrospective dedicated to German film director F. W. Murnau was shown at the festival. Chicago (2002 Film)
''Chicago'' is a 2002 American musical black comedy crime film based on the 1975 stage musical of the same name which in turn originated in the 1926 play of the same name. It explores the themes of celebrity, scandal, and corruption in Chicago during the Jazz Age. The film stars an ensemble cast led by Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Richard Gere. ''Chicago'' centers on Roxie Hart (Zellweger) and Velma Kelly (Zeta-Jones), two murderers who find themselves in jail together awaiting trial in 1920s Chicago. Roxie, a housewife, and Velma, a vaudevillian, fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows. The film marks the directorial debut of Rob Marshall, who also choreographed the film, and was adapted by screenwriter Bill Condon, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Anna Galiena
Anna Galiena (born 22 December 1954) is an Italian actress, best known to English-speaking audiences for her appearances in ''Le Mari de la coiffeuse'', '' Jamón, jamón'', '' Being Human'' and ''Senso '45''. Movie career In her youth, Galiena starred in numerous stage plays, including several of Shakespeare's works. She had made over a dozen films, mainly in her native Italy before her role in ''Le Mari de la coiffeuse'' brought her to international attention. ''Adaptation'' is a 2002 American meta comedy-drama film directed by Spike Jonze and written by Charlie Kaufman. It features an ensemble cast including Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep, and Chris Cooper, with Cara Seymour, Brian Cox, Tilda Swinton, Ron Livingston, and Maggie Gyllenhaal in supporting roles. Andreas Dresen (born 16 August 1963) is a German film director. His directing credits include '' Cloud 9'', '' Summer in Berlin'', ''Grill Point'' and ''Night Shapes''. His film '' Stopped on Track'' premiered at the Un Certain Regard section at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prize of Un Certain Regard.
