53rd Arizona State Legislature
The 53rd Arizona State Legislature, consisting of the Arizona State Senate and the Arizona House of Representatives, was constituted in Phoenix from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018, during the second two years of Doug Ducey's first full term in office. Both the Senate and the House membership remained constant at 30 and 60, respectively. Democrats gained one seat in the Senate, leaving the Republicans with a 17-13 majority. Republicans also maintained an 35–25 majority in the House after losing one seat to the Democrats. Steve Yarbrough (politician)
Steven B. Yarbrough (born August 26, 1947) is an American politician. A Republican, he was the president of the Arizona Senate, and represented District 17 from January 14, 2013 to January 14, 2019. Yarbrough served in the Arizona State Legislature from January 2003 until January 2011 in the Arizona House of Representatives District 21 seat, then in the Arizona Senate in the District 21 seat from January 10, 2011 until January 14, 2013 for his first term in the Senate. This District was renumbered from 21 to 17 in 2012, although it remained substantially the same geographically. Warren Petersen is an American politician and a Republican member of the Arizona Senate representing District 14 from January 9, 2023. He currently serves as President of the Arizona Senate. He formerly was a State Representative, also representing District 12. He was elected by his peers to serve as Majority Leader from 2018–2019. Bob Worsley (born February 15, 1956) is an American businessman and politician. He is the founder of SkyMall and a former Republican member of the Arizona Senate representing District 25 from 2013 to 2019. Kathleen Marie Hobbs (born December 28, 1969) is an American politician and social worker who is the governor-elect of Arizona, having been elected in 2022. She has served as the 21st secretary of state of Arizona since 2019. John Kavanagh (born June 5, 1950) is an American politician who has served in both houses of the Arizona State Legislature since 2007. He is currently representing the 3rd legislative district in the Arizona Senate since 2023. Kimberly Yee
Kimberly Yee (born February 23, 1974) is an American politician serving as the 36th Arizona state treasurer. She is the first Asian-American woman elected to the Arizona State Legislature.
