__FORCETOC__ 51st Street is a long one-way street traveling east to west across Midtown Manhattan. Notable places, east to west The route officially begins at Beekman Place which is on a hill overlooking FDR Drive. 51st continues for a few feet east of the intersection but the street sign refers to it as Peter Detmold Park (a reference to the dog park at the bottom of the hill) which has a pedestrian walk way over the FDR to the East River. Sutton Place Synagogue (Jewish Center for the United Nations) is a Traditional Jewish congregation located at 225 East 51st Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The congregation was founded in 1901 as Congregation "Beth Hamedrash Hachodosh Talmud Torah" (New House of Study for the Study of the Torah). Its first religious leader, Rabbi Meyer Freeman published a book entitled "The Talmud" to raise money for a synagogue building. The congregation, originally founded as an Orthodox Synagogue, acquired a synagogue building at 221 East 51st Street from Congregation Orach Chaim in 1906. In 1950, Rabbi David B.
