The 50th (Queen's Own) Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment of the British Army, raised in 1755. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 97th (The Earl of Ulster's) Regiment of Foot to form the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment in 1881. History Early history The regiment was originally raised by Colonel James Abercrombie as the 52nd Regiment of Foot in 1755 for service in the Seven Years' War. It was re-numbered as the 50th Regiment of Foot, following the disbandment of the existing 50th and 51st regiments, in 1756. The regiment's first action was when it embarked on ships and took part in the Raid on Rochefort in September 1757 during the Seven Years' War. In its early years the regiment wore a uniform of black facings and white lace; when they wiped sweat away with their cuffs the dye stained their faces, giving rise to the nickname the "Dirty Half-Hundred" ("half-hundred" equals fifty)." 50th Georgia Volunteer Infantry
The 50th Georgia Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment raised by the state of Georgia to fight for the Confederacy in the American Civil War. The regiment was organized on March 4, 1862, at Savannah, primarily from recruits from southern Georgia. The original commander was Col. William R. Manning (1817–1871). They were drilled at Camp Davis, just outside Guyton, Georgia. Upon being mustered into Confederate service, the regiment served in the Savannah defenses. On July 17, 1862, Major General John C. Pemberton sent the 50th Georgia Volunteers to Richmond to join the Army of Northern Virginia under its commanding general, Robert E. Lee. For the majority of the war, the 50th Georgia served with the First Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. The regiment participated in more than 45 engagements during the war. 50th Indian Tank Brigade
The 50th Indian Tank Brigade was an armoured brigade formation of the Indian Army during World War II. It was formed for service in the Burma Campaign of World War II from units of the British Army and the British Indian Army. The brigade's formation emblem was a white upraised fist and forearm on a black disc. The 50th Indian Tank brigade was placed under the command of XV Corps in October 1944 as armoured support for the Arakan campaign and located north of Maungdaw at Waybin in early December. Units of the brigade took part in actions at Buthidaung, The Mayu Peninsula, the Myebon Peninsula and Kangaw. The brigade was withdrawn from the Arakan in February 1945. 50 Armoured Regiment is an armoured regiment which is part of the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army. Formation The regiment was raised on 7 September 1987 by Lt Col A.K. The 50th Virginia Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment raised in Virginia for service in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. It fought mostly with the Army of Northern Virginia and in Tennessee. The 50th Virginia was organized in July 1861, with ten companies and three companies of cavalry temporarily attached. The regiment participated in the Battle of Carnifex Ferry on 10 September 1861; afterwards one of the cavalry companies was disabled and the other two transferred to the 8th Regiment Virginia Cavalry.
