5.56×30mm MINSAS
The 5.56×30mm MINSAS is a firearm cartridge manufactured by India's Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) for close-quarters combat use. It has an effective range of and good penetration against body armor. OFB claims it exhibits penetration superior to 9mm. It is currently chambered in the Modern Sub Machine Carbine and Amogh carbine. The MINSAS is being manufactured at Ammunition Factory Khadki in Pune. Development The first reports of the MINSAS being developed was from 2009 when the MSMC was announced to be in development. DRDO reported that the MINSAS can penetrate both soft body armor and 3.5 mm MS plates at 100 meters. Personal Defense Weapon
Personal defense weapons (PDWs) are a class of firearms intended for self-defense and security rather than warfare and infantry. Most PDWs fire a small-caliber (less than ), centerfire bottleneck cartridge resembling a scaled-down intermediate rifle cartridge, essentially making them an "in-between" hybrid between a submachine gun and a carbine. Close-quarters combat (CQC) or close-quarters battle (CQB) is a tactical situation that involves a physical fight with firearms involved between multiple combatants at short range. It can occur between military units, police/corrections officers and criminal elements, and in other similar situations. Modern Sub Machine Carbine
The Joint Venture Protective Carbine (JVPC), also known as Modern Sub Machine Carbine (MSMC) until 2014, is a gas-operated, magazine-fed, select fire submachine gun designed to chamber the 5.56×30mm MINSAS cartridge. It was designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, and manufactured by the Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited. It was intended as a replacement for the 9mm Sterling submachine gun in service with the Indian Armed Forces. The development of the JVPC began in 2010, being an offshoot of the INSAS small arms program. Its trials were commenced in 2016 and completed in 2021. The JVPC cleared the final phase of user trials by the Indian Army. The Amogh Carbine (''Amogh'' means Unerring) is a select-fire personal defense weapon designed & manufactured by Ordnance Factories Board. It is a derivative of the Excalibur rifle, which in turn is a development of the INSAS rifle. The Amogh has been designed for close quarters operations. History The Amogh was developed in 2005. In September 2008, an order was made to supply 148 Amoghs for a cost of 26.64 lakh. An audit revealed in September 2009 that 80 of the carbines were not used due to failure for supplying the needed ammunition for eight years. Government agencies received 12,000 pistols in the .32 ACP caliber with the designation P11 and were serial numbered 40001 to 52400.
