4 × Mile Relay
The 4 × mile relay is an athletics track event in which teams comprise four runners who each complete one mile (1,609.344 metres) or slightly more than 4 laps on a standard 400 metre track. The event is not often run as most legacy 440 yard tracks have been converted to 400 metres, thus making 4 × 1500 or 4 × 1600 metres easier to manage. However, the Penn Relays still includes an annual "Championship of America" 4 × mile event for men. The World Athletics governing body does not recognise a World Record in this event. 4 × 1500 Metres Relay
The 4 x 1500 metres relay is an athletics track event in which teams comprise four runners who each complete 1500 metres or 3.75 laps on a standard 400 metre track. While not a World Championship or Olympic event, the IAAF does ratify world records in the event. The men's world record is 14:22.22 by a Kenyan team of Collins Cheboi, Silas Kiplagat, James Magut and Asbel Kiprop, set on May 25, 2014 at the World Relays meet in Nassau, Bahamas. The women's world record is 16:27.02 by an American team of Colleen Quigley, Elise Cranny, Karissa Schweizer and Shelby Houlihan set on July 31, 2020 at the Bowerman Track Club Intrasquad IV meet in Portland, Oregon. Galen Rupp
Galen Rupp (born May 8, 1986) is an American long-distance runner. He competed in the Summer Olympics in 2008 in Beijing, 2012 in London, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro and 2021 in Tokyo. He won the silver medal in the men's 10,000-meter run in London and the bronze medal in the men's marathon in Rio de Janeiro. Rupp competed for the University of Oregon and trained under Alberto Salazar as a member of the Nike Oregon Project. He won the 2017 Chicago Marathon, becoming the first American to do so since Khalid Khannouchi in 2002. Rupp won marathon at the United States Olympic Trials in Atlanta on February 29, 2020, with a time of 2:09:20, and qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, where he took eighth place. Shadrack Kiptoo Biwott (born February 15, 1985 in Kenya) is a Kenyan-born American long-distance runner. Early life Biwott grew up in Eldoret in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya and moved to the United States in 2002 to attend La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On November 8, 2003, he placed first in the state with a time of 15:23.00 at the New Mexico State Cross Country Championships. Andrew "Andy" Wheating is a retired American middle distance runner. Wheating competed for the United States in the men's 800 m at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, and in the 1500 m at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was a professional runner for Nike. Personal Wheating was born in 1987 in Norwich, Vermont, the son of Justin and Betsy Wheating. His father, born in South Africa, was a field hockey player. High school Wheating originally played soccer in high school. He ran two seasons of cross country and one season of track during his stay at Kimball Union Academy. Theodorus Jacobus Leonardus "Dick" Quax (1 January 1948 – 28 May 2018) was a Dutch-born New Zealand runner, one-time world record holder in the 5000 metres, and local-body politician. Quax stood for Parliament for the ACT Party in 1999 and 2002. He was a Manukau City councillor from 2001 to 2007, when he stood unsuccessfully for mayor, and was a councillor on the Auckland Council from 2011 until his death in 2018. Athletic career Quax won four New Zealand national athletics titles: the 5000 m in 1972, 1973, and 1974; and the one mile in 1969. At the 1970 British Commonwealth Games, Quax won the silver medal in the 1500 metres. In the 5000 m, at the 1972 Summer Olympics he was eliminated in the heats, but he won silver in 1976. Richard Tayler (athlete)
Richard John Tayler (born 12 August 1948) is a former New Zealand runner who mostly competed in distances from 1500 m to 10,000 m. Tayler was born in Timaru in 1948. He is best known for winning the 10,000 metres at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand. In the race he won in a time of 27:46.4 minutes, beating Dave Black of England by 2 seconds. Tayler competed at the 1970 and 1974 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 1972 Summer Olympics. He finished 12th at the 1st IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Waregem, Belgium, 1973. Arthritis cut short Tayler's running career.
