40 Too Long
''40 Too Long'' is a comedy album by American comedian Andrew Dice Clay, released in 1992. The album's name was taken from an argument he says he had with a Chinese clothing salesman who took his suit size (42 long) the wrong way and kept suggesting smaller sizes. Unlike Clay's albums previously, he tends to side more with the women in this one on just about everything. (His siding with women was also the theme of his 1992 HBO special, ''For Ladies Only''.) Tracks 1–29 comprise a show he recorded at Governor's Comedy Club in Levittown, New York, on December 17 and 18, 1991. The last two tracks are original songs recorded and sung by Clay. (Both songs would later be incorporated into the beginning and the end, respectively, of ''For Ladies Only'' on HBO.) Andrew Dice Clay
Andrew Dice Clay (born Andrew Clay Silverstein; September 29, 1957) is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He rose to prominence in the late 1980s with a brash, deliberately offensive persona known as "The Diceman". In 1990, he became the first stand-up comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden for two consecutive nights. That same year, he played the lead role in the comedy-mystery film ''The Adventures of Ford Fairlane''. Clay has appeared in several films and television shows, including critically acclaimed supporting roles in Woody Allen's ''Blue Jasmine'' (2013) and Bradley Cooper's directorial debut '' A Star Is Born'' (2018). American Recordings (formerly Def American Recordings) is an American record label headed by producer Rick Rubin. The label has featured artists such as Slayer, the Black Crowes, ZZ Top, Danzig, Trouble, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, The Mother Hips, and System of a Down. He is the co-founder (alongside Russell Simmons) of Def Jam Recordings, founder of American Recordings, and former co-president of Columbia Records. ''The Day the Laughter Died'' is a comedy double album by American comedian Andrew Dice Clay, released in 1990. It was produced by Rick Rubin, whose concept was to record an unadvertised performance in a small club with a small crowd, many of whom would not necessarily be fans of Clay's act. Clay chose a New York club owned by comedian Rodney Dangerfield, Dangerfield's, to record during the holiday season. A sequel, ''The Day the Laughter Died, Part II'', was released in 1993. The album is largely improvisational, with Clay interacting with the audience over the course of over an hour and a half. The topics run through his usual gamut of sex, relationships between men and women, masculinity and popular culture. Unlike his prior recordings, the jokes are delivered intentionally flat and raw as to offend and alienate the audience, turning the performance into the joke itself. Governor's Comedy Club
Governor's Comedy Club is an American comedy club in Levittown, New York, on Long Island, opened in 1985. It hosts a variety of comedians from local talent, to national headliners such as Kevin James, Nick DiPaolo, Andrew Dice Clay, and Gilbert Gottfried. In 2017, Governor's opened "The Lil' Room", which is a smaller and more intimate 60-seat showroom located within Governor's of Levittown, separate from the club's main showroom; in 2022, the room's name was changed to "The Giggle Room" and the size of the room itself was expanded to seat around 90 people. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, they opened a third stage at their Levittown location, "The Patio", located outdoors adjacent to the club; shows on the Patio are usually held during the warmer months of the year. Levittown is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York. It is located halfway between the villages of Hempstead and Farmingdale.
