4th Army Corps (Armenia)
The 4th Army Corps ( hy, 4-րդ բանակային կորպուս) is a regional military formation the Armenian Army, located in the capital of the Vayots Dzor Province. Overview The corps was founded in July 1997. By decree of President Robert Kocharyan on 23 January 2002, the army corps was given a battle flag. In recent years, it has been focused on repelling any type of attack from the Azerbaijani Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and specifically the Nakhchivan Garrison. There have been speculation that alongside the United Group of Forces, the 4th Corps could be integrated into Russia’s Southern Military District. The Ministry of Defence of Armenia ( hy, Հայաստանի պաշտպանության նախարարություն) often abbreviated to the RA Ministry of Defence is an Armenian governmental agency in charge of overseeing the development of the Armed Forces of Armenia. The Ministry of Defense is also the executive body which implements the policies of the Armenian Government in the defense sector. It particularly oversees the budget of the armed forces and ensures the safety of troops. It is located on 5 Bagrevand Street, Yerevan. Vayk
Vayk ( hy, Վայք) is a town and the center of the Vayk Municipality of the Vayots Dzor Province in southern Armenia. As per the 2016 official estimate, Vayk had a population of around 4,700. However, as of the 2011 census, the population of the town was 5,877, down from 6,024 reported in the 2001 census. Andranik Artavazd Makaryan ( hy, Անդրանիկ Արտավազդի Մակարյան) is an Armenian Army lieutenant general. He is a Deputy Chief of the Armed Forces General Staff. He has also held various senior positions in the armed forces. Early career He was born on 12 May 1966 in the village of Chinari, in the rayon of Shamshadin of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic. He served in the Soviet Army from 1984 to 1986. In 1991, he graduated from the Higher School of the KGB (now the FSB Academy). Sedrak Firdusi Saroyan (; 3 September 1967 – 13 August 2022), also known as Seyran Saroyan, was an Armenian general and politician who served in the Parliament of Armenia from 2007 until his resignation in 2018. During his tenure, Saroyan was an independent politician affiliated with the Republican Party of Armenia. Yuri Grigorii Khachaturov ( hy, Յուրի Գրիգորիի Խաչատուրով; born 1 May 1952) is an Armenian general. He formerly served as the Secretary-General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and as Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia (2008–2016). Garegin Ter-Harutyunyan, better known by his ''nom de guerre'' Garegin Nzhdeh ( hy, Գարեգին Նժդեհ, ; 1 January 1886 – 21 December 1955), was an Armenian statesman, military commander and political thinker. As a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, he was involved in the national liberation struggle and revolutionary activities during the First Balkan War and World War I and became one of the key political and military leaders of the First Republic of Armenia (1918–1921). Grigory Yurii Khachaturov ( hy, Գրիգորի Յուրիի Խաչատուրով; born 30 July 1977) is a major general in the Armenian Ground Forces who is also the son of former Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary-General and former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Colonel General Yuri Khatchaturov. Vazgen Zaveni Sargsyan ( hy, Վազգեն Զավենի Սարգսյան, ; 5 March 1959 – 27 October 1999) was an Armenian military commander and politician. He was the first Defence Minister of Armenia from 1991 to 1992 and then from 1995 to 1999. He served as Armenia's Prime Minister from 11 June 1999 until his assassination on 27 October of that year.
