49th Vanier Cup
The 2013 Vanier Cup, the 49th edition of the Canadian university football championship, took place on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at TELUS-Université Laval Stadium in Quebec City, Quebec. This was the third time in five years that Université Laval hosted the Vanier Cup. For the previous two years, the game had been held in conjunction with the Canadian Football League's championship, the Grey Cup, but due to logistical issues by this year's host, Regina, a joint venture was not possible. PEPS Stadium
The ("Laval University Sports and Physical Education Complex"), usually called PEPS for short, is a sports complex located in Quebec City, Quebec, on the Université Laval campus. PEPS opened in 1970 and includes an outdoor stadium, an indoor stadium, two indoor swimming pools (aquatic centre), basketball and tennis courts, a fitness centre, and two hockey arenas. For the 1976 Summer Olympics, it hosted four women's and seven men's team handball competitions. The main arena seats 2,000 and was home to the reborn Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1997 to 1999 when they moved back to their traditional home at the Colisée Pepsi. CIS Football
U Sports football is the highest level of amateur play of Canadian football and operates under the auspices of U Sports (formerly Canadian Interuniversity Sport). Twenty-seven teams from Canadian universities are divided into four athletic conferences, drawing from the four regional associations of U Sports: Canada West Universities Athletic Association, Ontario University Athletics, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, and Atlantic University Sport. Andrew Buckley (Canadian Football)
Andrew Buckley (born August 20, 1993) is a former professional Canadian football quarterback. He played for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) for two seasons before announcing his retirement prior to the 2018 CFL season. He was drafted in the seventh round, 63rd overall, by the Stampeders in the 2015 CFL Draft. He played CIS football for the Calgary Dinos where he won two consecutive Hec Crighton Trophy awards in 2014 and 2015. Background Buckley was born in Calgary and spent his high school career playing at Rundle College and then the University of Calgary (Dinos). Johnny Mark (born June 1, 1992) is a Canadian football kicker who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (2014, 2016) and the Calgary Dinos in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) from 2011 to 2015. He concluded his university career holding multiple CIS records, including most points in a career (535), most field goals in a career (91) and most field goals in a season (26) and is a four-time CIS All-Canadian. Boris Bede (born November 20, 1989) is a French-born Canadian football placekicker and punter for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He first enrolled at Tiffin University before transferring to Université Laval. Bede has been nicknamed "Boom Boom" for his strong leg on kickoffs and punts. Vanier Cup
The Vanier Cup (french: Coupe Vanier) is the championship of Canadian university football. It is organized by U Sports football and is currently played between the winners of the Uteck Bowl and the Mitchell Bowl. It is named after Georges Vanier, the former governor general of Canada and was first awarded in 1965 to the winner of an invitational event contested between two teams that were selected by a panel. In 1967, the trophy was declared the official "CIAU National Football Championship" and a playoff system was instituted. From its creation until 1982, it was known as the Canadian College Bowl.
