49th Indian Brigade
The 49th Indian Brigade was an infantry brigade of the British Indian Army that saw active service with the Indian Army during the First World War. It served as an independent formation in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign but was broken up early in 1918. History The 49th Indian Brigade was formed in March 1917 by the Egyptian Expeditionary Force. It served in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign as an independent formation. It did not take part in any significant battles and was broken up in January 1918. 49th Indian Infantry Brigade
The 49th Indian Infantry Brigade was an infantry brigade formation of the Indian Army during World War II. It was formed in October 1941 at Bolarum in India. It was assigned to the 19th Indian Infantry Division. The brigade fought in the Burma Campaign and moved between a number of infantry divisions. It was with the 14th Indian Infantry Division between March and May in 1942, the 23rd Indian Infantry Division between May 1942 and March 1944, the 17th Indian Infantry Division between March and April 1944 and the served with the 23rd Indian Division until the end of the war. The 49th Mixed Brigade ( es, 49.ª Brigada Mixta),Carlos Engel, ''Historia de las Brigadas Mixtas del E. P. de la República'', 1999 p. 76 was a mixed brigade of the Spanish Republican Army in the Spanish Civil War. It was formed in February 1937 at the Guadalajara Front. This ill-fated military unit suffered heavy casualties over and over again during its involvement in different conflicts of the Civil War. The 49th Infantry Brigade, later known as 49th (Eastern) Infantry Brigade during the Cold War, was a brigade of the British Army. First World War The brigade started its existence as part of the 16th (Irish) Division, part of Kitchener's Army in the First World War. The 16th Division served through the war on the Western Front.
