Cape Breton Nova
Cape Breton Nova is a former provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1956 and 2013. It elected one member to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. In its last configuration, the district included the northern parts of Sydney including Whitney Pier, as well as a small area of Cape Breton County, all within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. The district was created in 1956. In 1993, it gained the Ashby area between Welton Street and Ashby Road from Cape Breton South and the Grand Lake Road area from Cape Breton West. It lost the Scotchtown and River Ryan/Lingan areas to Cape Breton Centre. In 2003, it lost the New Victoria area and gained part of northern Sydney. Cumberland West was a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada, that elected one member to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. It was formed in 1949 when Cumberland County was divided into three new districts, the other two being Cumberland Centre and Cumberland East. George Isaac Smith
George Isaac Smith MBE (April 6, 1909 – December 19, 1982) was a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the 18th premier of Nova Scotia from 1967 to 1970. He was a Canadian senator from 1975 until his death. G.I. Smith is noted for having recruited Robert Stanfield to help rebuild and lead the Progressive Conservatives in Nova Scotia. While Premier he brought Michelin Tire, still Nova Scotia's biggest employer, to the province. He established the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, had the government take over Sydney Steel Corporation when tts corporate owners closed it down, thus preserving 3,000 jobs. His government established the affordable housing community of Lower Sackville. Clare (electoral District)
Clare is a provincial electoral district in Nova Scotia, Canada which existed between 1949-2013 and since 2021. Prior to 1949, Clare was part of Digby district. It elects one member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The electoral district includes most of the Municipality of the District of Clare, an Acadian area occupying the southwestern half of Digby County. For four consecutive elections from 1988 to 1999, the district had the highest voter turnout in the province. The electoral district was abolished following the 2012 electoral boundary review and was largely replaced by the new electoral district of Clare-Digby. Edward Manson
Edward Alexander Manson (October 6, 1906 – February 17, 1989) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Cape Breton West in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1956 to 1970. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party. Manson was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. He was educated at the St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University and was a pharmacist. He married Phemie Wilton in 1927. He owned and operated Manson Drugs Ltd. in Sydney for many years until taking over the Woolco pharmacies throughout the Maritimes. Manson died on February 17, 1989. Manson first attempted to enter provincial politics in the 1953 Nova Scotia election, but lost to Liberal incumbent Malcolm A. Patterson by over 1,100 votes. Manson ran again in the 1956 election, defeating Patterson by 336 votes.
