45th British Academy Film Awards
The 45th British Academy Film Awards, given by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 1992, honoured the best films of 1991. Alan Parker's '' The Commitments'' won the awards for Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay and Editing. '' The Silence of the Lambs'' won the awards for Best Actor (Anthony Hopkins) and Actress (Jodie Foster). It went on to win the same Academy Awards. The Commitments (film)
''The Commitments'' is a 1991 musical comedy-drama film based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle. It was directed by Alan Parker from a screenplay written by Doyle, Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais. Set in the Northside of Dublin, the film tells the story of Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins), a young music fanatic who assembles a group of working-class youths to form a soul band named "The Commitments". The film is the first in a series known as ''The Barrytown Trilogy'', followed by '' The Snapper'' (1993) and '' The Van'' (1996). Producers Lynda Myles and Roger Randall-Cutler acquired the film rights to the novel in 1988, and commissioned Doyle, a first-time screenwriter, to write an adaptation. Doyle spent one year working on the script before Myles brought in veteran screenwriters Clement and La Frenais to help complete it. Ridley Scott
Sir Ridley Scott (born 30 November 1937) is a British film director and producer. Directing, among others, science fiction films, his work is known for its atmospheric and highly concentrated visual style. Edward Bradley Saxon (born November 17, 1956) is an American film producer. Early life Saxon was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and educated at Kirkwood High School from 1972 to 1976. She is most well known for her work as the director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival and for producing film adaptions of Irish writer Roddy Doyle's The Barrytown Trilogy: 1991's '' The Commitments,'' 1993's '' The Snapper,'' and 1996's '' The Van.''
