The 44th Georgia Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. History The 44th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was entered into service in the Confederate States Army on March 11, 1862, at Camp Stephens near Griffin, Georgia. Infantry is a military specialization which engages in ground combat on foot. Infantry generally consists of light infantry, mountain infantry, motorized infantry & mechanized infantry, airborne infantry, air assault infantry, and marine infantry. Although disused in modern times, heavy infantry also commonly made up the bulk of many historic armies. Fayette County is a county located in the north central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 119,194, an increase from 106,567 in 2010. A company is a military unit, typically consisting of 80–250 soldiers and usually commanded by a major or a captain.
