43M Turán III
The 43M Turán III or 44M Turán III was a Hungarian medium tank of World War II. It was based on the 41M Turán II medium tank, but equipped with a significantly larger turret compared to its predecessors, and a long-barrelled 75 mm anti-tank gun. Development As the war progressed, the 41M Turán heavy medium tank also became obsolete quickly. To increase the firepower of the Turán tanks further more, the Zrínyi assault guns armed with a long 75 or short 105 mm cannon, a widely regarded successful design was developed on the chassis. The other attempt was redesigning the turret as a whole, and mounting the 43M 7.5 cm tank gun (the same used on the 44M Zrínyi I). Two 43M 75 mm tank guns were manufactured, these were built into what later became called the Turán III and into the Zrínyi I. Operation Margarethe (''Unternehmen Margarethe'') was the occupation of Hungary by German Nazi troops during World War II that was ordered by Adolf Hitler. Course of events Hungarian Prime Minister Miklós Kállay, who had been in office from 1942, had the knowledge and the approval of Hungarian Regent Miklós Horthy to seek secretly at negotiating a separate peace with the Allies in early 1944. Hitler wanted to prevent the Hungarians from turning against Germany. On 12 March 1944, German troops received orders by Hitler to capture critical Hungarian facilities. The ''Panzerkampfwagen'' IV (Pz.Kpfw. IV), commonly known as the ''Panzer'' IV, was a German medium tank developed in the late 1930s and used extensively during the Second World War. 40M Turán
The Turán tanks were a series of Hungarian medium tanks of World War II. They were produced in two main variants: the original 40M Turán (or Turán I) with a 40 mm gun and later the 41M Turán (or Turán II) with a short-barreled 75 mm gun, improved armour and a new turret. A total of 424 were made. The 40M Turán (Turán I) was originally inspired by and used the technology-based solutions found on the design of the Czechoslovak Škoda T-21 medium tank prototype. The Turán tanks fought on the Eastern Front against the Soviets, and in the defence of Hungary. A further upgraded prototype variant, the 43M Turán (or Turán III) was also developed and constructed but did not go into mass production. 44M Tas
The 44M Tas was a Hungarian medium tank, in earlier Hungarian knowledge classified as a heavy tank design of World War II. It was developed to combat heavily armored Soviet tanks encountered on the Eastern Front and to replace the older Turán I and Turán II tanks which Hungary operated, modernising Hungary's armoured forces. The Tas somewhat resembled the German Panther tank in terms of both looks and capabilities. It was to be well armored – up to 120 mm thick and with sloped armor. The main armament would likely have been a Hungarian built heavily modified anti-tank version of the 80 mm Bofors AA gun. The only prototypes built were destroyed when the Americans bombed the Manfred Weiss factory in July 1944. The 44M Zrínyi I was a Hungarian assault gun/tank destroyer of the Second World War. Developed on the basis of the successful 43M Zrínyi II, it was armed with a long 75 mm gun that was more suited to anti-tank warfare. This was the same 75 mm 43M gun that was used on the 43M Turán III medium tank. The 43M Zrínyi II itself was developed on the chassis of the much less successful 40M Turán medium tank.
