The Forty-second Oklahoma Legislature was a meeting of the legislative branch of the government of Oklahoma, composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It met in Oklahoma City from January 3, 1989, to January 8, 1991, during the term of Governor Henry Bellmon. Lieutenant Governor Of Oklahoma
The lieutenant governor of Oklahoma is the second-highest executive official of the state government of Oklahoma. As first in the gubernatorial line of succession, the lieutenant governor becomes the new governor of Oklahoma upon the death, resignation, or removal of the governor. The lieutenant governor also serves as the president of the Oklahoma Senate, and may cast a vote to break ties in that chamber. Mark Slatten Snyder (August 14, 1946 – September 22, 2020) was an American businessman and politician. Snyder was born in Edmond, Oklahoma and graduated from Edmond High School. Penny Williams
Penny Baldwin Williams (May 6, 1937 – April 16, 2018) was an American Democratic Party politician from Oklahoma. Williams served as a legislator in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1981 to 1988, representing District 70. She later was elected to the Oklahoma Senate, representing District 33, from 1989 to 2004. Senator Williams authored important bills on education during her time in the legislature, including the historic education reform act. Williams also authored a series of bills to strengthen math and science, and the bill creating the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics. Mary Bernice Shedrick (born August 9, 1940) is a politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Shedrick represented Oklahoma State Senate District 21 from 1980 to 1996. In 1994 she was a candidate for Governor of Oklahoma. Shedrick is now a part-time Administrative Law Judge in Payne and Logan counties and is a member of the Oklahoma Ethics Commission. Early life Shedrick was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on August 9, 1940 to parents Irene May Williams-Link and Arthur Cole Link, Sr. Her father died when she was only 11 years old and her mother passed two years later. Patricia Weedn (née Throckmorton; born May 10, 1950) is an American politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Elected in 1989, Weedn served in the Oklahoma Senate, representing District 15, until 2000. Prior to her public office, Weedn worked as the McClain County Assessor for ten years. She was the first woman to be elected Senator in Cleveland and McClain counties. Weedn remains active in her community outside of the legislature and has two children. Gene Stipe
Eugene E. "Gene" Stipe (October 21, 1926 – July 21, 2012) was an American politician from Oklahoma. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Early life and career Gene Stipe was born in Blanco, Oklahoma, the son of Jacob Irvin Stipe, a farmer and coal miner, and Eva Lou Stipe. Following a stint in the United States Navy in the mid-1940s, he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives at the age of 21 in 1948, and served as Assistant Floor Leader from 1949 to 1953. He graduated from law school at the University of Oklahoma while serving in the state House of Representatives, and living at the fire station in Norman, Oklahoma.
