40th Hong Kong Film Awards
The 40th Hong Kong Film Awards presentation ceremony took place at The Star Hall at Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (KITEC) on 17 July 2022. Earlier it was scheduled for April 17 but it was postponed thrice due to COVID-19. Nominations announced on 16 February 2022, include films released theatrically both in 2020 and 2021, as the 2021 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. '' Raging Fire'' won the best film award, whereas its director Benny Chan, who died in 2020 and won the best director award at the ceremony. '' Anita'', a biopic on Cantopop star Anita Mui won most awards, followed by ''Limbo'' and ''Raging Fire''. Francis Ng Chun-yu (; born 21 December 1961) is a Hong Kong actor and director. He is known for his roles in the TVB series ''Triumph in the Skies'' and in films such as ''Young and Dangerous'', '' Once Upon a Time in Triad Society'', ''A Man Called Hero'' and '' The Mission''. Early life Ng was born in Hong Kong to a family with ancestry from Panyu, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. He is the uncle of footballer, Ng Wai Chiu. Jun Li (; born 3 August 1991) is a Hong Kong film director and screenwriter. Li made his feature film debut with ''Tracey'' in 2018. He won the Golden Horse Award for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 58th Golden Horse Awards in November 2021 for his second film ''Drifting''. Early life Li was born in London and grew up in Hong Kong. Li originally studied architecture at the University of Hong Kong but later dropped out. He then studied journalism and communications at Chinese University of Hong Kong. Gordon Lam Ka-tung (林家棟; born 21 September 1967) is a Hong Kong actor, film producer and screenwriter. Initially known for his supporting roles in films directed by Andrew Lau and Johnnie To, Lam eventually became a lead actor in the Hong Kong film industry, appearing in the 2013 box office hit, ''Firestorm'', and the Hong Kong Film Award-winning 2016 film, ''Trivisa'', which also netted him the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor. ''Leap'' () is a 2020 biographical sports film directed by Peter Chan and starring Gong Li and Huang Bo. The film is based on the China women's national volleyball team's stories spread over more than 40 years. The film was released in Mainland China and the United States on September 25, 2020. It had been slated for release in China on January 25, 2020, the first day of the Chinese New Year, but was withdrawn due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film's Chinese title was originally named "China Women's Volleyball Team" ("Zhong Guo Nu Pai") but due to regulatory issues, was renamed as ''Duoguan'' ("to take the crown") one day before pre-release sales started. Peter Chan
Peter Ho-sun Chan (born 28 November 1962) is a film director and producer. Early life Chan was born in British Hong Kong to parents China. He and his family moved to Thailand when he was 12, where he grew up amongst the international Chinese community in Bangkok. He speaks Thai as fluently as a Thai person. He later studied in the United States where he attended film school at UCLA, with a minor in accountancy. He returned to Hong Kong in 1983 for a summer internship in the film industry. Chan never returned to UCLA to complete his studies. Career He served as second assistant director, translator, and producer on John Woo's ''Heroes Shed No Tears'' (1986), which was set in Thailand.
