3rd National Council Of Namibia
Members of the 3rd National Council of Namibia, which lasts from 2004 - 2009. The chairperson is Asser Kuveri Kapere of the South West Africa People's Organization. 24 of the 26 members of the National Council are members of SWAPO, while one is from the United Democratic Front and one is from the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance. National Council Of Namibia
The National Council is the upper chamber of Namibia's bicameral Parliament. It reviews bills passed by the lower chamber and makes recommendations for legislation of regional concern to the lower chamber. The 42 National Council members are indirectly elected by regional councils for a term of five years. Each of the 14 regional councils chooses three of its members to serve on the National Council. The last regional council elections were held on 25 November 2020. Margaret Mensah-Williams
Margaret Natalie Mensah-Williams (born 25 December 1961) is a Namibian politician, diplomat, and prominent SWAPO member. She serves as Namibia's ambassador to the United States. Mensah-Williams also served as councillor of Windhoek Khomasdal North constituency from 1998 until 2019, and from this position was elected to represent Khomas Region in the National Council, the upper house of the Namibian Parliament from 2015 to 2019. In the National Council she was elected deputy chairperson in 1998, and chairperson in 2015. She resigned from all regional representative positions prior to the 2019 Namibian general election in order to contest for a seat in the National Assembly, Namibia's lower house, and subsequently became member of Parliament. Stefanus Orateng Mogotsi
Stefanus "Steve" Orateng Mogotsi (born 26 December 1961) is a Namibian politician and former featherweight boxer. A member of SWAPO, Mogotsi won a seat in the Regional Council of Omaheke Region in 2004. He was subsequently selected to the 3rd National Council of Namibia. The seat, representing Kalahari Constituency, had been held by the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance since 1992. Early life and education Mogotsi was born in Aminuis, Omaheke Region. He was a featherweight boxing champion and a winger for the Namibian rugby union team in 2011. He joined SWAPO in 1978, while studying at St. Joseph's High School in Döbra. Career He became increasingly involved in politics when he worked at Consolidated Diamond Mines (CDM) in Oranjemund, ǁKaras Region. Omaheke Region
Omaheke ( hz, Sandveld) is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, the least populous region. Its capital is Gobabis. It lies in eastern Namibia on the border with Botswana and is the western extension of the Kalahari desert. The self-governed villages of Otjinene, Leonardville and Witvlei are situated in the region. , Omaheke had 48,594 registered voters. Economy and infrastructure Gobabis is the centre of this area and also its main business area, as it is linked with the capital of Namibia, Windhoek, by rail and the tarred B6 national road. This infrastructure serves as the main supply line for the region. All the other population centres in the region are linked with Gobabis by road. Okavango Region
Kavango (before 1998: Okavango) was one of the thirteen regions of Namibia until it was split into the Kavango East and Kavango West Regions in 2013. Its capital was Rundu. In the north, Kavango bordered the Cuando Cubango Province of Angola, and in the southeast the North-West District of Botswana. Johannes Kamati Nakwafila (born 28 August 1957 in Ohangwena Region) is a Namibian politician. A teacher by profession, he has been a member of the National Council of Namibia since 2004 and Regional Councillor for Epembe Constituency since 1999. Education and career Nakwafila is a graduate of Ongwediva High School in 1977 and Ongwediva College of Education in 1979. Ohangwena Region
Ohangwena is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, its capital is Eenhana. Major settlements in the region are the towns Eenhana and Helao Nafidi aa well as the self-governed village of Okongo. , Ohangwena had 150,724 registered voters. Ohangwena is traversed by the northwesterly line of equal latitude and longitude.
