Gemini Awards
The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions. In April 2012, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced that the Gemini Awards and the Genie Awards would be discontinued and replaced by a new award ceremony dedicated to all forms of Canadian media, including television, film, and digital media, dubbed the "Canadian Screen Awards". Sonja Smits
Sonja Smits (born September 8, 1958) is a Canadian actress. She was nominated for two Genie Awards: for ''Videodrome'' (1983) and '' That's My Baby!'' (1984). On television, she starred in '' Street Legal'' (1987-1992) and '' Traders'' (1996-2000). Life and career Smits was born in Ottawa Valley, Ontario, Canada. Donnelly Rhodes
Henry Donnelly Rhodes (December 4, 1937 – January 8, 2018) was a Canadian actor, known professionally as Donnelly Rhodes. He had many American television and film credits, probably best known to American audiences as the hapless escaped convict Dutch Leitner on the soap opera spoof ''Soap'' and as Phillip Chancellor II on ''The Young and the Restless''. Rhodes was well-known to Canadian audiences as Sgt. Nick Raitt in the CBC TV series ''Sidestreet'' (1975–1978) and as Grant "Doc" Roberts in another CBC TV series, ''Danger Bay'' (1984–1990). Winston Rekert
Winston Houghton Rekert (June 10, 1949 – September 14, 2012) was a Canadian actor. He was best known for starring in the television series ''Adderly'' and ''Neon Rider''. Career A Vancouver native, Rekert started acting at age 12, appearing in an amateur production of ''Amahl and the Night Visitors''. After high school, Rekert spent a year working in a logging camp, then took a year off to try acting. Rekert subsequently joined the Arts Club Theatre Company and in 1973 he landed his first television role on the comedy-drama ''The Beachcombers''. Scott Hylands
Scott Hylands Douglas (born 1943) is a Canadian actor who has appeared in movies, on television, and on the stage. Because of his longevity and versatility, critics have called him "one of Canada's greatest actors." Early years Hylands was born in 1943 in Vancouver, British Columbia. His mother Ruth was a science teacher, and his father Walter died during World War II. ''Mount Royal'' was a Canadian prime time television soap opera that aired on CTV. It premiered January 3, 1988 with a two-hour episode. The series starred Patrick Bauchau and Domini Blythe. It is said to be Canada's answer to the American soap opera ''Dynasty''. Setting The series was set in an upscale Montreal neighbourhood. It followed the Valeur family. Andre Valeur his wife Katherine and their three children Danielle, Stefanie and Rob. The Valeur family not only had a home in Montreal but also in Paris and they spent much time there during the show's short run. Pasquale "Pat" Mastroianni (born December 22, 1971) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his role as Joey Jeremiah in the ''Degrassi'' franchise, for which he received a Gemini Award in 1988. ''Danger Bay'' is a Canadian television series, produced in Vancouver, with first-run episodes broadcast on CBC Television in Canada and The Disney Channel in the United States premiering October 8, 1984. 9th Genie Awards
The 9th annual Genie Awards were held March 22, 1988, and honoured Canadian films released in 1987.Maria Topalovich, ''And the Genie Goes To...: Celebrating 50 Years of the Canadian Film Awards''.
