39th National Assembly Of Quebec
The 39th National Assembly of Quebec consisted of those elected in the 2008 Quebec general election. It was in session from January 13, 2009 to February 22, 2011 and from February 23, 2011 to August 1, 2012. Jean Charest (Liberal) served as Premier and Pauline Marois ( PQ) was the leader of the opposition. 2008 Quebec General Election
The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canada, Canadian Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale (Quebec), Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier. The 2008 election also marked the first time that Québec solidaire won a seat. Issues Charest called the election on November 5, saying he needed a "clear mandate" and a majority to handle the economic storm. He was criticized, however, by the Parti Québécois and the Action démocratique du Québec for calling a snap election to get a majority when they were willing to work with him to fix the economy. Claude Bachand (MNA)
Claude Bachand (born April 6, 1956) is a Canadian politician in the province of Quebec. Bachand was elected to represent the riding of Arthabaska in the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2008 provincial election. He is a member of the Quebec Liberal Party. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Bachand obtained a college degree in health sciences at the Cégep de Rosemont in 1976 before obtaining a bachelor's degree at the Université de Sherbrooke in 1979. He worked as a mathematics, physics, and chemistry teacher for 23 years and was also the mayor of the municipality of Saint-Norbert d'Arthabaska in the Centre-du-Québec region of southeastern Quebec from 1992 to 2002. He was also a member of various administrative councils in the Bois-Francs and Centre-du-Quebec area. Berthier is a provincial electoral district in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the municipalities of Lavaltrie, Saint-Félix-de-Valois, Lanoraie, Saint-Jean-de-Matha, Berthierville, Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Saint-Gabriel and Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon. Bellechasse is a provincial electoral riding in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. Dominique Vien
Dominique Vien (born February 10, 1967) is a Canadian politician, who served as Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Bellechasse from 2003 to 2007. She was defeated in the 2007 election by Jean Domingue of the Action démocratique du Québec, but was then re-elected in the same district in 2008. She was a member of the Quebec Liberal Party and was the delegate minister for Health and Social Services, previously the Minister for Government Services. Beauharnois is a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The district notably include the city of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield. It was created in 2001 from parts of Beauharnois-Huntingdon, Châteauguay and Salaberry-Soulanges. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, its territory was unchanged. An earlier version of the Beauharnois electoral district had been created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Guy Leclair
Guy Leclair (born May 9, 1968) is a Canadian politician. Leclair was elected on December 8, 2008 to represent the riding of Beauharnois in the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2008 provincial election. He is a member of the Parti Québécois. Born in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, Leclair worked in the Canadian Armed Forces as a marine mechanic in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1986 to 1989. He obtained a college degree at the Institute Teccart in 1998 and worked as an instrumental and control technician from 1989 to 2008. He has also been owner of two businesses, including one writing promotional articles for musical groups. Robert Dutil is a Canadian businessman and politician, who was a Quebec Liberal Party member of the National Assembly of Quebec from 1985 to 1994 and from 2008 to 2015.
