308th Cavalry Regiment (United States)
The 308th Cavalry Regiment, commonly referred to as the 308th Cavalry, was a reserve regiment of the United States Army from 1917 until 1942. In September 1918, it was converted into the 65th and 66th Field Artillery, and the 22d Trench Mortar Battery. The units were stationed at Camp Kearny, California. Although demobilized in December 1918, they were re-formed and re-purposed in October 1921 as the 308th Cavalry, an element of the 62d Cavalry Division. During World War II, it was disbanded again. In 1959, the regimental headquarters was transferred to Department of the Army control. Cavalry
Historically, cavalry (from the French word ''cavalerie'', itself derived from "cheval" meaning "horse") are soldiers or warriors who fight mounted on horseback. Cavalry were the most mobile of the combat arms, operating as light cavalry in the roles of reconnaissance, screening, and skirmishing in many armies, or as heavy cavalry for decisive shock attacks in other armies. An individual soldier in the cavalry is known by a number of designations depending on era and tactics, such as cavalryman, horseman, trooper, cataphract, knight, hussar, uhlan, mamluk, cuirassier, lancer, dragoon, or horse archer. Fort Belvoir is a United States Army installation and a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It was developed on the site of the former Belvoir plantation, seat of the prominent Fairfax family for whom Fairfax County was named. It was known as Camp A. A. Fort Myer
Fort Myer is the previous name used for a U.S. Army post next to Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, and across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. Founded during the American Civil War as Fort Cass and Fort Whipple, the post merged in 2005 with the neighboring Marine Corps installation, Henderson Hall, and is today named Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall. Hunt Armory (also known as Pittsburgh Armory) is a former armory located at 324 Emerson Street in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Pittsburgh architects W.G. Wilkins Co. Announced on August 29, 1909 and budgeted at $450,000 ($ in present-day terms) it was completed by 1916. 107th Field Artillery Regiment (United States)
The 107th Field Artillery Regiment is a Field Artillery Branch regiment of the United States Army. It has been affiliated with the Pennsylvania National Guard since its formation. It appears that the regiment last formally came into existence in June 1959, when the 107th Field Artillery Battalion was reorganized as the new Regiment's 1st Battalion in line with the Pentomic (ROCID) reorganization going on at that time. History The regiment traces its lineage to that of Independent Battery F of the American Civil War. During the Battle of Gettysburg a member of the unit, Casper R. Carlisle, earned the Medal of Honor.
