The Imperial Russian Army (russian: Ру́сская импера́торская а́рмия, tr. ) was the armed land force of the Russian Empire, active from around 1721 to the Russian Revolution of 1917. In the early 1850s, the Russian Army consisted of more than 900,000 regular soldiers and nearly 250,000 irregulars (mostly Cossacks). 3rd Army (Russian Empire)
The Russian Third Army was a World War I Russian field army that fought on the Eastern Front (World War I), Eastern theatre of war. Field management was established in July 1914 at the headquarters of the Kiev Military District. The unit was disbanded in the beginning of 1918. At the beginning of the war the 3rd Army was composed of the IX, X, XI, XXI Army Corps. The 12th Army was a field army of the Imperial Russian Army during World War I that fought on the Eastern Front. Its field headquarters was established in January 1915.
