3rd Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment
The 158th Aviation Regiment is an aviation regiment of the United States Army. It traces its heritage to the 158th Aviation Battalion. Company A, 158th Aviation Battalion, was activated in the Regular Army on 25 July 1968 at Fort Carson, Colorado; and Company C on the same date at Fort Riley, KS. Both became an element of the 101st Airborne Division. Company A was inactivated on 19 April 1979 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Company C on 16 October 1986 at Fort Campbell. Both Companies A and C were redesignated as Battalion HHCs on 16 September 1987, for the 1st and 3rd Battalions, respectively. Beirut Air Bridge
The Beirut Air Bridge (1984–1998) provided administrative and logistical support the United States embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. The Air Bridge provided the only safe mode of transportation for US diplomats between Larnaca International Airport, Larnaca, Cyprus, and several landing zones in the greater Beirut area. UH-60 " Blackhawks" from C Co 7/ 158th Aviation Regiment, 12th Aviation Brigade, V Corps and from Wiesbaden Air Base and Giebelstadt Army Airfield, Germany, provided the "Air Bridge" to the US Embassy in the war-torn city of Beirut. Giebelstadt
Giebelstadt is a municipality in the district of Würzburg in Bavaria in Germany. History The town is the birthplace of Florian Geyer (1490–1525), also known as "Florian Geier from Giebelstadt", a Franconian nobleman who led the Black Company during the German Peasants' War resulting from the Protestant Reformation in Germany in the 16th century. Florian led the revolt to the Bishop's Residence in Würzburg where the revolt was repressed. In 1935, the construction of the Giebelstadt airfield was authorized. It was first operated by the German Luftwaffe in World War II. During this time, Adolf Hitler built an escape railroad track that led to the airfield, which was discovered by the U.S. Army in 1945. Giebelstadt supported 5,786 soldiers and their families during the U.S. Army's 62-year history until its closure along with the U.S. Forces draw down of Würzburg area in 2006. The 12th Combat Aviation Brigade is a Combat Aviation Brigade of the United States Army. It was first organized as the 12th Aviation Group at Fort Benning, Georgia, on 18 June 1965. Vietnam The unit deployed to Vietnam in August 1965 to command non-organic Army aviation units, and by November 1965, the group consisted of 11,000 personnel and 34 aviation units. The 11th Aviation Battalion was a United States Army aviation unit that fought in the Vietnam War. The unit served as a test for helicopter support of ground infantry units. History The unit was constituted on 21 August 1965 and activated on 23 August 1965 at Fort Benning, Ga. The Battalion was inactivated on 16 September 1987. The 11th Aviation Battalion stationed at Fliegerhorst Kaserne in Erlensee, Germany, was the air wing of V Corps. Glenview is an incorporated village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States, approximately 15 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop. Per the 2020 census, the population was 48,705. The 11th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade is a Combat Aviation Brigade in the United States Army Reserve. The unit's lineage can be traced to the prior lineage and insignia of the 11th Aviation Group which was last headquartered in Illesheim, Germany in 2005. It is one of two aviation brigades of Army Reserve Aviation Command. The brigade consists of a headquarters company, two Black Hawk assault battalions, and one fixed wing battalion.
