3 Gold Coins
''3 Gold Coins'' is a 1920 American silent Western film directed by Clifford Smith and starring Tom Mix. It was produced and distributed by Fox Film Corporation. It is believed to be a lost film. Plot Things are not going well for Bob Fleming. Then, while showing off for Betty Reed and her father (Frank Whitson), he shoots through three gold coins, which Bob keeps as lucky charms. J. M. Ballinger and Rufus Berry arrive in the township of Four Corners and proceed to plant oil on Fleming's property, with plans to sell stock to the townsfolk. Bob is implicated in the scheme and arrested for fraud. In the end, it turns out there really is oil on Fleming's land. Clifford Smith (1894–1937) was an American film director who also occasionally film actor, acted and film producer, produced. He directed over eighty films between 1915 and 1937 as well as several serial film, serials, doing much of his work for Universal Pictures. Primarily a director of western film, westerns he worked with leading genre stars such as William S. Hart. Tom Mix Filmography
Tom Mix (1880–1940) was an American motion picture actor, director, and writer whose career spanned from 1910 to 1935. During this time he appeared in 270 films and established himself as the screen's most popular cowboy star. Mix's flair for showmanship set the standard for later cowboy heroes such as Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. His horse Tony also became a celebrity who received his own fan mail. Born in Pennsylvania, Mix served in the United States Army before moving to the Oklahoma Territory in 1902. Three years later, after working as a physical fitness instructor, bartender, and peace officer, he was hired as a full-time cowboy for the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch. Soon after, Mix established himself as the star attraction of the Millers' Wild West Show. In early 1910 Mix agreed to work as an actor and wrangler for the Selig Polyscope Company. Mix alternated between working in films and in Wild West shows until 1913 when he went into the film business full-time. The ...
