3MP is a commercial radio station, broadcast from Rowville and licensed to Melbourne. Owned and operated by Ace Radio from studios in South Melbourne, it broadcasts an easy listening music format on 1377 AM and DAB+ digital radio. History Early years 3MP commenced transmission on 22 July 1976 from studios in the Bayside Shopping Centre, Frankston. It initially broadcast on 1380 kHz AM from a transmitter located at Rowville and, despite being based outside of the Melbourne city centre, was regarded by many listeners as Melbourne's seventh commercial radio station, the first new commercial licence since the launch of 3XY in 1935. MTR 1377
Melbourne Talk Radio (callsign 3MP) was a radio station in Melbourne that commenced broadcasting on 19 April 2010 until its closure on 2 March 2012. It replaced, and was later succeeded by, 3MP, which used the 1377 kHz frequency. The station's transmitter is located in the suburb of Rowville and broadcasts at 5 kW. History In December 2009, existing operator Pacific Star Network and Macquarie Radio Network, the owner of top rating Sydney talkback radio station 2GB, agreed to create the joint-venture "Melbourne Radio Operations Pty Ltd", to supply radio programming in the Melbourne market. John Richard Burgess (born 4 June 1943) is an Australians, Australian television and radio personality and host, often referred to as "Burgo" and from his radio days "Baby John Burgess" or "Baby John", as the youngest presenter at the station. He has been a staple of the industry for 58 years. He is best known for his long tenure hosting duties on the Australian version of game show ''Wheel of Fortune (Australian game show), Wheel of Fortune'' and as a breakfast radio host. Nine News is a radio news service providing the half-hourly radio news bulletins to radio stations across Australia. History On 16 September 2009, Macquarie Radio Network shut down its news website, livenews.com.au after two years of existence, citing poor financial returns. In April 2015, following the merger of Macquarie Radio Network and Fairfax Radio Network, the newsroom of 2UE Sydney was closed and replaced with the 2GB feed. Local bulletins on 3AW, 4BC and 6PR now take the Macquarie National News branding. This branding was retained until the renaming of Macquarie Media as Nine Radio in 2020. In July, the newsroom shared between 1116 SEN and 3MP 1377 in Melbourne was closed, replaced with the Macquarie National News service from 3AW. 1116 SEN (call sign 3AK) is an Australian radio station in Victoria. Owned and operated by Pacific Star Network, it broadcasts a sports radio format from Lower Plenty to Greater Melbourne. First broadcast on 29 November 1931 as 3AK, the station currently broadcasts from studios in South Melbourne. History The station first broadcast on 29 November 1931 as 3AK. In October 2003, amid growing debt and struggling ratings, 3AK operators Data & Commerce Limited placed the station up for sale. Sherbet (band)
Sherbet (aka Highway or The Sherbs) was one of the most successful Australian rock bands of the 1970s. The 'classic line-up' of Daryl Braithwaite on vocals, Tony Mitchell (musician), Tony Mitchell on bass guitar, Garth Porter on keyboards, Alan Sandow on drums, and Clive Shakespeare on guitar provided their teen-oriented pop style. In 1976 Shakespeare left and was soon replaced by Harvey James. Sherbet's biggest singles were "Summer Love (Sherbet song), Summer Love" (1975) and "Howzat" (1976), both reaching Chart-topper, number one in Australia. "Howzat" was also a top 5 hit in the United Kingdom. The band was less successful in the United States, where "Howzat" peaked at No. 61.
