39th National Film Awards
The 39th National Film Awards, presented by Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in the year 1991. Ceremony took place in 1992. With 39th National Film Awards, two new awards were introduced for feature films section. These awards includes National Film Award for Best Special Effects and National Film Award for Best Choreography and awarded with Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus). These two newly introduced awards were not given for 39th National Film Awards as no film/entry was found to be suitable. Also for Best Writing on Cinema, Best Film Critic is awarded with Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), which was till then awarded with Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus). Directorate Of Film Festivals
The Directorate of Film Festivals in India was an organisation that initiated and presented the International Film Festival of India, the National Film Awards and the Indian Panorama. Although the Directorate helped appoint members of the jury panels each year, it had no input on which films are selected for consideration and which films ultimately win awards at the various functions it initiates. Malayalam Cinema
Malayalam cinema is an Indian film industry of Malayalam-language motion pictures. It is based in Kochi, Kerala, India. The films produced in Malayalam cinema are known for their cinematography and story-driven plots. National Film Award For Best Direction
The National Film Award for Best Direction is an honour presented annually at India's National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF), an organisation set up by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Since 1967, the award is given by a national panel appointed annually by the DFF to a director for their work within Indian cinema. It is presented by the president of India at a ceremony held in New Delhi. The winner is given a "Swarna Kamal" (Golden Lotus) certificate and a cash prize of . Including ties and repeat winners, the DFF has presented a total of 53 Best Direction awards to 34 different directors. Satyajit Ray
Satyajit Ray (; 2 May 1921 – 23 April 1992) was an Indian director, screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, essayist, lyricist, magazine editor, illustrator, calligrapher, and music composer. One of the greatest auteurs of film-making, Ray is celebrated for works including ''The Apu Trilogy'' (1955–1959), ''The Music Room'' (1958), ''The Big City'' (1963) and ''Charulata'' (1964). Ray was born in Calcutta to nonsense rhyme author Sukumar Ray. Sreekumaran Thampi
Sreekumaran Thampi (born 16 March 1940) is an Indian lyricist, music director, director, producer, and screenwriter in Malayalam cinema. He also writes poetry and is a recipient of the Vallathol Award. In 2017, he was awarded the J. C. Daniel Award, Kerala government's highest honour for contributions to Malayalam cinema. Film career Thampi was introduced to the Malayalam film industry in 1966 by P. Subramaniam as a lyricist in the film '' Kaattumallika''. He has produced 25 films, directed 29, and written scripts for 85 films in Malayalam besides writing thousands of songs. Nityananda Samntaray (25 April1933 – 23 February 2018) was an Indian politician who belonged to Odisha. He was active in politics with Indian National Congress, and was elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly from Tirtol Assembly constituency in 1985 Odisha Legislative Assembly election. Early life, education and family Samntaray was born on 25 April 1933 to Bhagaban Samantray and Radhamani Samantray at Kolar village in Cuttack district. Nabyendu Chatterjee
Nabyendu Chatterjee (1937 – 14 January 2009) was an Indian Bengali and Hindi film director and producer. In 1991 he received 38th National Award for the Best Feature Film in Bengali. Career Chatterjee started his career as an actor in 1962 but soon turned into direction. He worked with Bengali director Aravind Mukherjee as an assistant. He made his directorial debut with an experimental Hindi film ''Naya Rasta'' in 1967. In his career he was known as independent, off beat film maker with un parallel and art films. His choice of literary stories to be translated into film scripts by himself. In 1981 Chatterjee made ''Sarisreep'' base on Manik Bandopadhyay's story. His last finished work ''Mansur Miyar Ghora'' attracted positive criticism soon after release. Chatterjee could not complete his last film, Sanskar, a project he pursued for years. Gummadi Venkateswara Rao (9 July 1927 – 26 January 2010), known Mononym, mononymously by his surname Gummadi, was an Indian actor and producer, who worked predominantly in Telugu cinema and a few Tamil films. Known as one of the finest method acting, method actors, Gummadi starred in around five hundred feature films.
