The Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) is a labor union representing writers in film, television, radio, news, and online media. The Writers Guild of America, East is affiliated with the Writers Guild of America West. Together the guilds administer the Writers Guild of America Awards. It is an affiliate of the International Federation of Journalists, the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds, and the AFL–CIO. History WGAE had its beginnings in 1912, when the Authors' League of America (ALA) was formed by some 350 book and magazine authors, as well as dramatists. Woody Allen
Heywood "Woody" Allen (born Allan Stewart Konigsberg; November 30, 1935) is an American film director, writer, actor, and comedian whose career spans more than six decades and multiple Academy Award-winning films. He began his career writing material for television in the 1950s, mainly ''Your Show of Shows'' (1950–1954) working alongside Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Larry Gelbart, and Neil Simon. He also published several books featuring short stories and wrote humor pieces for ''The New Yorker''. In the early 1960s, he performed as a stand-up comedian in Greenwich Village alongside Lenny Bruce, Elaine May, Mike Nichols, and Joan Rivers. Errol Trzebinski
Errol Trzebinski (born 24 June 1936 in Gloucester), is a British writer of books on the Happy Valley set of colonial Kenya. Her book ''Silence Will Speak'' was a source for the script of the 1985 Hollywood movie ''Out of Africa''. Her late husband Sbish Trzebinski appears as a drunkard in the film and is slapped by Meryl Streep when he insults her. Errol cast doubt on the authorship of ''West with the Night'', claiming Beryl's 3rd husband Raoul C Schumacher was the ghost writer. Personal life She lives and works in Lamu Island, Kenya. Kurt Luedtke (; September 28, 1939August 9, 2020) was an American screenwriter and executive editor of the ''Detroit Free Press''. He wrote ''Out of Africa'' (1985), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also wrote '' Absence of Malice'' (1981), for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, as well as ''Random Hearts'' (1999). Menno Meyjes (born 1954, Eindhoven) is a Dutch-born screenwriter, film director, and film producer. Meyjes moved to the United States in 1972 and studied at San Francisco Art Institute. ''Agnes of God'' is a 1979 play by American playwright John Pielmeier which tells the story of a novice nun who gives birth and insists that the child was the result of a virgin conception. A psychiatrist and the mother superior of the convent clash during the resulting investigation. The title is a pun on the Latin phrase Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). Synopsis The stage play concerns three main characters: Martha, the psychiatrist; the Mother Superior; and Agnes, the novice. There are no other characters on stage. All three roles are considered demanding for the actors playing them. John Pielmeier
John Pielmeier (born February 23, 1949) is an American playwright and screenwriter. Life and career Pielmeier was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of Louise (Blackburn) and Len Pielmeier. He was raised Catholic. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Catholic University of America in 1970 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1978. He began his career as an actor, working with such repertory companies as Actors Theater of Louisville and the Guthrie Theater. In 1976, Pielmeier's first play, ''A Chosen Room'', was produced in Minneapolis. Three years later, '' Agnes of God'' was performed in a staged reading at the O'Neill National Playwrights' Conference in Waterford, Connecticut and won the 1979 Great American Play Contest.
