34th Mechanized Infantry Brigade (Greece)
The 34th Mechanized Infantry Brigade ( el, 34η Μηχανοποιημένη Ταξιαρχία Πεζικού,34η Μηχανοκίνητη Ταξιαρχία ""Απόσπασμα Σχου Διαλέτη" 34η M/K ΤΑΞ) is a mechanized infantry brigade of the Hellenic Army. It is headquartered in Assiros and subordinated to the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Division. History The brigade traces its history to the 34th infantry Regiment ( el, 34ο Σύνταγμα Πεζικού, 34ο ΣΠ), which was founded in December 1913 in Florina as a subunit of the 2nd Infantry Division. The regiment distinguished itself in the Asia Minor Campaign and the Greco-Italian War, becoming one of a handful of units to receive twice the highest Greek award for valour, the Commander's Cross of the Cross of Valour. Dimosthenis Dialetis
Dimosthenis Dialetis ( el, Δημοσθένης Διαλέτης; 1869–1954) was a Greek soldier who rose to the rank of lieutenant general. Born in Dervista, Aetolia-Acarnania, Dimosthenis Dialetis enlisted in the Hellenic Army on 23 September 1885, enrolling in the NCO preparatory school, from which he graduated as a sergeant on 23 July 1887. After attending the NCO officer academy and being commissioned as an infantry second lieutenant on 10 August 1901. He fought in the Greco-Turkish War of 1897, the Balkan Wars of 1912–13, the Macedonian front of World War I, and the Asia Minor Campaign, being promoted to lieutenant in 1909, captain in 1912, major in 1914, lieutenant colonel in 1917, and colonel in 1919. He particularly distinguished himself for his bravery and leadership as commander of the 34th Infantry Regiment in the Battle of Dumlupınar (1921), fighting off the attacks of three Turkish divisions for two days. Giannitsa ( el, Γιαννιτσά , in English also Yannitsa, Yenitsa) is the largest city in the regional unit of Pella and the capital of the Pella municipality, in the region of Central Macedonia in northern Greece. The municipal unit Giannitsa has an area of 208.105 km2. Its population is 31,983 people (2011 census).
