2nd Raiding Brigade
The 2nd Raiding Brigade, also known as the Takachiho Paratroopers, was an Imperial Japanese paratrooper unit. Part of the Japanese Army, the unit was notably involved in the Battle of the Philippines in 1945, during which it was almost completely destroyed. History Background In the years preceding the Second World War, the Imperial Japanese Army invested in the deployment of paratroop divisions. Intended to serve as elite troops, the Japanese paratrooper force was trained to conduct paradrops behind enemy lines and onto small islands. The 503rd Infantry Regiment, formerly the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment (503rd PIR) and the 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment (503rd AIR), is an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army. The Fourth Air Army (Japanese: 第4航空軍, romanized: Kōkū gun) was a land-based aviation force of the Imperial Japanese Army.
