2nd Parliament Of Singapore
The 2nd Parliament of Singapore was a meeting of the Parliament of Singapore. Its first session commenced on 6 May 1968 and was prorogued on 14 April 1971. It commenced its second session on 21 July 1971 and was dissolved on 16 August 1972. The members of the 2nd Parliament were elected in the 1968 general election. Parliament was controlled by a People's Action Party majority, led by Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his Cabinet. Punch Coomaraswamy
Punch Coomaraswamy (16 October 1925 – 8 January 1999) was a Singaporean judge, diplomat and politician who served as Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore between 1966 and 1970, and Singapore Ambassador to the United States between 1976 and 1984. He had also served as Singapore's Ambassador to Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Fiji, India, and Sri Lanka. Education Coomaraswamy was the son of Kandiah and Chellam Coomaraswamy. Kandiah Coomaraswamy was a medical doctor who served in the then Straits Settlements Medical Service from 1916 to 1955, when he retired. Coomaraswamy received his early education at the English College in Johor and later obtained his law degree from the University of Nottingham in England. Chua Chu Kang Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) located in the western region of Singapore. The constituency encompasses Choa Chu Kang New Town. It is one of the longest existing constituencies in Singapore, spanning 52 years from 1959 to 2011. Throughout its relatively long history, the ruling People's Action Party has won the constituency in every election, except the 1963 general election when it lost the seat to opposition party Barisan Sosialis. Lim Kim San
Lim Kim San ( zh, c=林金山, p=Lín Jīnshān; 30 November 1916 – 20 July 2006) was a Singaporean politician who served as a Cabinet minister between 1965 and 1981. He was credited for leading a successful public housing programme in the country during the early 1960s, which eased the acute housing shortage problem at that time. Early life and education Born in 1916 in Singapore, Lim was the eldest of six children. He was educated at Oldham Hall School and Anglo-Chinese School before graduating from Raffles College in 1939 with a Diploma in Arts in economics. During the Japanese occupation, Lim was one of the many tortured on suspicion of being pro-communist and pro-British. Chor Yeok Eng (; 29 January 1930 – 21 July 2016) was a Singaporean politician who is one of the Old Guards member of the People's Action Party (PAP). Political career Chor served two separate stints in Parliament.
