The 22nd annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 23 June to 4 July 1972. The Golden Bear was awarded to the Italian film '' I racconti di Canterbury'' directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. West Berlin
West Berlin (german: Berlin (West) or , ) was a political enclave which comprised the western part of Berlin during the years of the Cold War. Although West Berlin was de jure not part of West Germany, lacked any sovereignty, and was under military occupation until German reunification in 1990, the territory was claimed by the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) which was heavily disputed by the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries. However, West Berlin de facto aligned itself politically with the FRG on 23 May 1949, was directly or indirectly represented in its federal institutions, and most of its residents were citizens of the FRG. West Berlin was formally controlled by the Western Allies and entirely surrounded by the Soviet-controlled East Berlin and East Germany. Frank Simon (director)
Francis Wilfred Simon (1899–1956) was an English footballer who played for Manchester City, Crewe Alexandra, and Port Vale. Career Simon played for Manchester City and Crewe Alexandra, before joining Port Vale in July 1920. He played three Second Division games in the 1920–21 season and then seven games in the 1921–22 season. He scored his first goal for the club on Christmas Eve 1921, in a 3–2 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell. He was released from The Old Recreation Ground in the summer of 1922. George Sluizer
George Sluizer (25 June 1932 – 20 September 2014) was a French-born Dutch filmmaker whose credits included features as well as documentary films. Career Born in Paris, France, to a Dutch-Jewish father and a Norwegian mother, he was best known for directing two versions of '' The Vanishing'', a 1988 Dutch-language release, originally titled '' Spoorloos'', and the 1993 American version. Other feature films directed by Sluizer included '' Utz'' (1992) for producer John Goldschmidt, '' Crimetime'' (1995), and ''Dark Blood'', which was discontinued after the death of its lead actor River Phoenix, but later completed and premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2012. Robin Lehman (born Robert Owen Lehman Jr.; December 3, 1936) is an American documentary filmmaker best known for his short films '' Don't'' (1974) and '' The End of the Game'' (1975), which received consecutive Academy Awards for Best Documentary (Short Subject). Peter Ustinov
Sir Peter Alexander Ustinov (born Peter Alexander Freiherr von Ustinov ; 16 April 192128 March 2004) was a British actor, filmmaker and writer. ''Hammersmith Is Out'' is a 1972 American comedy-drama film based on the legend of Faust. Rainer Werner Fassbinder (; 31 May 1945 – 10 June 1982), sometimes credited as R. W. Fassbinder, was a German filmmaker. Nanni Loy (born Giovanni Loi; 23 October 1925 – 21 August 1995) was an Italian film, theatre and TV director. Specifically, Nanni Loy was Sardinian, and one of several notable Sardinian film makers, including Franco Solinas. Biography Loy was born in Cagliari, Sardinia: his father was Guglielmo Loy-Donà, a lawyer issue from a distinguished Sardinian-Venetian family, and his mother was the noblewoman Donna Anna Sanjust of the Marquesses of Neoneli. Rosetta Loy, an Italian novelist, is his sister-in-law. He became famous for introducing in Italy the candid camera with his show ''Specchio segreto'' (Secret mirror) in 1965.
