Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. 2024 Australian Open – Women's Doubles
Hsieh Su-wei and Elise Mertens defeated Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jeļena Ostapenko in the final, 6–1, 7–5 to win the women's doubles tennis title at the 2024 Australian Open. It was their second major title as a team, Hsieh's eighth major title, and Mertens' fourth. With the win, Hsieh claimed both the women's doubles and the mixed doubles titles at the event. Hsieh was the first woman to win both titles at the Australian Open since Rennae Stubbs in 2000, and the first to do so at any major since Martina Hingis at the 2017 US Open. 2024 US Open – Men's Doubles
Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson defeated Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–4) to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2024 US Open. They saved two match points (in the second round against Andreas Mies and John-Patrick Smith) en route to the title. It was Thompson's first major doubles title and Purcell's second. Harri Heliövaara and Henry Patten defeated Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson in the final, 6–7(7–9), 7–6(10–8), 7–6(11–9) to win the gentlemen's doubles tennis title at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. 2024 French Open – Men's Doubles
Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavić defeated Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the final, 7–5, 6–3 to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2024 French Open. It was Arévalo's second major men's doubles title and Pavić's fourth. His tennis singles, singles career-high ranking was world No. 213 in 2007 and his career-high ranking in doubles was world No. 3 on 22 July 2013.
